Property Description for 741 Eastern Parkway

Located on the grand, tree-lined Eastern Parkway, in the heart of Crown Heights, the barrel-front brownstone at 741 Eastern Parkway is waiting to greet you at the top of a private driveway! This regal two-family home, with an impressive 20x48’ footprint, extra deep front lot, original stoop and cornice, and a full-height round projecting bay makes a magnificent statement on a coveted landscaped block. Turnkey-ready, this home has been tastefully renovated and restored, combining modern convenience with classic details. The original woodwork and millwork, pocket doors, and fireplace mantles are in excellent condition and exude old-world charm throughout the 3,024 square foot home. (If desired, the new homeowner may extend or build an additional 1,840 square feet) A large, privately-enclosed rear garden offers peaceful enjoyment or entertainment space, and private parking means never having to circle the block again. Comprising 3 stories and a basement, the home’s layout boasts an owner's duplex, with 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths, and 2+ bedroom rental apt. The garden and parlor level duplex have split system units, includes a large master suite, with walk-in closet, original fireplace, and an en suite bath with marble tile, double vanity and huge glassed in shower. Two additional bedrooms, laundry, and a second full bath, with marble floor tiles and deep soaking tub, complete the garden level. Just up the stairs is the prized parlor floor, with 11 foot high ceilings and flanked by oversized bay windows on both northern and southern exposures, allowing natural sunlight to flow throughout the entire home. The deluxe eat-in kitchen features marble countertops, farmhouse sink, modern, open shelving, original fireplace, and a huge dining area that's ready for a party. There's also access to the expansive backyard. Read a book in the adjoining family room or play the piano in the spectacular front parlor, replete with mantles, coved ceilings, and original plaster medallions. The top floor is currently used as a beautifully renovated rental unit, complete with two more original fireplaces, and its own washer/dryer and dishwasher. The apt currently brings in $2800 per month. With a 20% down payment, your mortgage bill would only be $4000 a month. Crown Heights | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Originally known as Crown Hill by the Lenape Indians that lived there, Crown Heights has evolved into a diverse neighborhood, occupied primarily by Hasidic Jews and one of the largest Caribbean populations to be found anywhere outside of the West Indies.

Head over to Nostrand Avenue, one of the main West Indian commercial areas in the neighborhood, which is lined with stores that have been in those exact same places for generations, providing their goods and services to area residents. Kingston Avenue has similar commercial activities that support the Jewish community, and Franklin Avenue shows the most signs of change and gentrification, with an ever-expanding mix of yoga studios, coffee shops, and organic grocery stores that serve the influx of young professionals. No matter which of these areas you visit, you will find an interesting mix of businesses that you wouldn’t normally picture as existing side-by-side. It is all part of the cultural diversity of Crown Heights.

The neighborhood is bisected, from east to west, by Eastern Parkway, which is a beautiful, 3-mile-long boulevard lined with mature trees. This leafy oasis was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famed designer of Central Park, the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, and the U. S. Capitol in Washington, D. C.

You will find a mix of low-rise apartment buildings, large middle-class elevator buildings, brownstones, and some luxury buildings. Century-old architecture stands next to modern residential developments in a visually interesting mix of styles, much as the diversity of the residents exists. People who would not normally meet and mix are forging new pathways to cultural understanding by working, living, and playing together in the same neighborhood.
