Property Description for 132 Argyle Road

Live in The Creme de la Creme of Victorian Flatbush~ Lovely, Mid Century, 5 Bedroom, 3 Bath Home in the heart of bucolic Prospect Park South! One of the RARE, younger homes in Glorious Prospect Park South and a literally outstanding example of earlier Modern architecture as compared to the surrounding Victorians, this renovated beauty embodies the efficient design and use of space characteristic of it's vintage. The coveted open layout and flow of the home begins with the double height entry foyer with a wall to wall coat closet and  groovy, open tread stair leading to the spacious living area with a curved, floor to ceiling window that floods the room with natural light. The newly renovated kitchen has two walls of upper and lower cabinetry, white Quartz countertops, Samsung stainless steel appliances and a huge island big enough to seat 4 with an equally huge skylight above. Opposite the kitchen is an intimate dining alcove big enough for a table that seats 8. Down the hall are three great sized bedrooms, two of which share a gorgeous, bright bath with a skylight, a 6 foot wide closet with sliding barn door and a deep soaking tub with Riobel rain shower head and radiant heated floor. The huge Master has an ensuite bath with a glass enclosed shower and a large enclosed porch that could easily be restored or converted into a fab walk-in closet or office! On the lower level you will find sprawling open space ideal for a second family room, play room or whatever your heart desires. There is another large bedroom, an office, another full bath with shower, the laundry room and a convenient interior entrance to the garage. If it's enjoyment of the outdoors you crave, sliding insulated glass doors lead to your big, beautiful garden with a generous patio surrounded by lush, established peripheral plantings including roses, evergreens, rhododendron, holly and more. Recent renovations include updated plumbing and electric, new HVAC, new hot water heater, Nest thermostat, renovated kitchen and baths, newly painted exterior, new flooring. Conveniently located just a few blocks from the B and Q trains to Manhattan and all of the great eateries and shopping of Cortelyou Road, with the likes of Cafe Madeline, Pasture Burger, Manchego, Koko Ramen, Purple Yam, Cinco De Mayo, The Castello Plan, Sycamore, The Farm on Adderley, Mimi's Hummus, Lea and the year-round farmers market on Sundays.

Prospect Park South | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Charming tree-lined blocks, grand homes, and grassy center esplanades - Prospect Park South feels more like a quiet suburb than Brooklyn, the most populated borough in New York City.

The small landmarked neighborhood in south Brooklyn is bounded by Coney Island Avenue to the southwest, Ocean Avenue to the northeast, Prospect Park to the south, and Beverly Road to the south.

Don’t let the suburban vibe of Prospect Park South fool you, urban grit awaits you just outside the neighborhood's boundaries. It’s about a 45-minute commute to Manhattan on the B, Q, or F train or a short walk to livelier neighborhoods. Prospect Park South is flanked by Windsor Terrace, Kensington, Ditmas Park, and Flatbush. It’s the best of both worlds.

The history of the neighborhood starts with its original developer, Dean Alvord. If it wasn’t for his unique vision, Prospect Park South may have never blossomed into what it is today. In 1899 Alvord wanted to take advantage of Brooklyn’s newly created railway system that connected the borough. He purchased farmland and began building the neighborhood, which began as a six-block-by-two-block swatch of land with grand homes. Many of the houses were Victorian-inspired. Alvord marketed the neighborhood as a slice of country in the big city and the rest is pretty much history.

Prospect Park South is a few blocks bigger these days. Its grand Victorian-style homes still define the neighborhood. Other architectural styles found in the nabe include Colonial, French Revival, and Spanish Mission. Apartments and a few prewar co-ops complete the neighborhood's housing stock.

There aren’t too many places to shop in Prospect Park South but you might find a few spots in the commercial areas along Coney Island Avenue and Church Avenue. The suburban setting of Prospect Park South is popular with young families, which is why they’ve flocked there for the last decade.
