Property Description for 242 Fifth Ave

Conceived in the late 1800's with a Queen Anne cast iron facade by George Harding, 242 Fifth Avenue was born atop Madison Square Park, crowned with intricate ornamentation and tied up with a cast iron bow. Over 135 years later, The Bow Building is born again, its cast iron facade restored to perfection, as the newest luxury rental residence to grace the booming NoMad neighborhood. Four exquisite two and three bedroom homes have been carefully re-imagined in this New York City Landmark with high-end condo finishes, double-height ceilings, Scavolini designed kitchens and baths, and expansive windows. Each oversized residence has a private elevator entry, dedicated storage, and private outdoor space.

A 6-story, 25' wide x 100' deep luxury rental mixed-use building with an elevator. The 11,750 ± SF (gross above grade) building is located in close proximity to Madison Square Park, in between the Flatiron District/Union Square and Herald Square as well as convenient transportation access to the 4 5 6 N Q and R subway lines.

The building offers a tremendous retail presence with 25' of frontage situated on the west side of Fifth Avenue between 27th and 28th Streets and 13,250 ± SF of unused air rights which would be subject to Landmarks approval.

Steps from Eataly, the NoMad and new Virgin hotels, and nestled in the heart of Manhattan on the world's most famous street - 242 is the new definition of luxury Fifth Avenue living.

NoMad | Manhattan

Quick Profile

NoMad, North of Madison Square Park, is a rectangular swath of land that is bordered by East 25th Street to the south, East 29th Street to the north, Sixth Avenue to the west, and depending who you ask, Madison or Lexington Avenue to the East. It’s had its acronymed name for over two decades but not every New Yorker calls the neighborhood NoMad.

Historic architecture, trendy hotels and restaurants and high-priced apartments - NoMad wasn’t always the coveted neighborhood that it is today. It’s gone through many transformations over the years. Including a red light district known as the Tenderloin in the 1880’s. It was a popular shopping destination and a place where high society held court in the mid 19th century. It was part of New York City’s Silicon Alley in the 1990’s.

As of lately, world class chefs and restaurants have moved into NoMad. It’s tied with Midtown Manhattan for having the most Michelin stars (six stars to date). Besides NoMad’s architecture, nightlife, and restaurants, we can’t forget the added perk of being close to other great neighborhoods and cultural institutions. NoMad’s central location makes it easier to get just about anywhere in the city. You can walk to Chelsea, West Village, Union Square or Grand Central Station in no time at all. The N, R, 1, 6, B, Q, F, and M are very close or just a few blocks away. Penn Station is also within walking distance.
