Property Description for 324 West 83rd Street, 5-S

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
Sun-Filled, Renovated, Stretch-Out Oasis
The first time I stepped into the foyer of this classically renovated home, it was love at first sight. I recognized the impeccable quality that only a complete and utter gut restoration can offer – indeed, this was a brand new, special home perfectly perched in a wonderfully antique building. I knew the smart work that it took to make this Pre-War stunner look as though it belonged in its 1905, Riverside Park-block building – work that was impressively executed. To anchor this rare home appropriately into its gorgeous building, yet to make it live perfectly in the Twenty First Century, took immense skill, craftsmanship, and love. Here, the plumbing, electric, floors, ceilings, walls, every room – everything – has been redone – reimagined – and gloriously renovated.
This South-facing, five star residence is bathed in light, boasts tranquil treetop views, and its unique, wide-open, horizontal layout graciously offers an open plan living room with three oversized windows, a beautiful decorative fireplace and mantle, an open dining area ideal for entertaining, and a centralized AV system with built-in speakers.
The open cook’s kitchen is enviable in every way – boasting top-line appliances by Viking, SubZero, and Meile (including wine fridge) – not to mention lots of custom cabinets, ample Ceasarstone counters, a handsome Calacatta Gold marble tile backsplash, and a big pantry.
The handsome bedrooms are split – a graciously planned layout that offers guests their own perfect retreat served by a lovely, windowed guest bathroom with Bianco Carrera marble subway tiles, a Robern medicine cabinet, marble floor, and fixtures from Simon’s Hardware. The guest bedroom is a flexible, sunny room that is perfect for all of life’s growing needs. Currently configured as a delightful den, and perfect for a big work-from-home office, this bright bedroom boasts gorgeous pocket doors that flow nicely into the lofty living room – doors that can readily be changed to offer a different entry (please see alternate plan).
On the other side of this feel-good home is a master suite worthy of the name. Quiet, bright, and cheerful, this abode is served by two large, South-facing windows, ample custom closets, and an en suite marble, windowed bathroom graced by a large soaking tub, Crema Marfil subway tiles, Robern medicine chest, and fixtures by Simon’s Hardware.
There is an Electrolux Washer/Dryer (vented); there is a deep, custom entry closet; and the casements around the big windows throughout this home are 1905 originals – as are the pocket doors that serve the guest bedroom.
Supremely situated in a pet-friendly building with a live-in Super, laundry/bike/storage rooms in the basement, and package/stroller parking room in the lobby (whose wall treatments are the handiwork of the Obama White House painter, Marash Elezaji) – this resplendent residence is in one of NYC's most easy-to-live and easy-to-love neighborhoods.
Here, right by Riverside Park (Hippo and River Run Playgrounds anyone?), most every Upper Westside dining, shopping, and cultural destination is mere steps away.
Yes, the first time I set foot in this amazing home it was easy to fall in love. I invite you to do the same.

Upper West Side | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Bracketed on its east and west borders by massive city parks, the Upper West Side (UWS) is known for its greenery, stately and elegant townhomes, safe streets and great schools, all of which make it a very desirable neighborhood for families. The UWS has maintained its community feeling, making it attractive to young professionals and retirees, both of whom want a sense of belonging in the place they call home.

Here you’ll find many apartment buildings, especially those along Central Park West. Historic architecture abounds, anchored by four luxury co-ops - the San Remo, Majestic, Century and Eldorado apartments - all of which have two towers on their interiors. They were built in the 1930s and their design was predicated on a 1929 building code that imposed a height limit on residences facing the street. There are also impressive row houses near Riverside Drive throughout the W 70 and 80 Streets. Above the 90s, you will find smaller buildings where walk-ups are very reasonably priced.

There are several world-class museums and venues dedicated to the performing arts. Plentiful dining can be found in the UWS. You will find everything from quaint Jewish delis serving up bagels and a schmear to sophisticated fine dining that has earned multiple Michelin stars, and everything you could possibly want in between. There is also abundant shopping and a vibrant nightlife.
