Property Description for 125 East 12th Street, 5-G

Rarely available fifth floor loft at the highly coveted, 24-hour doorman condominium, The Zachary. The fifth floor is a standout in this well-run condo boasting soaring ceilings, oversized windows, and this particular unit has an extended upstairs which gives the feel and use of a real home while still having the drama of a loft. Please note this unit is 270 sq ft larger than 2013 when originally bought. The owners added an amazing sitting room and office and also put in central air and heat in addition to built ins. Enter a massive space with a sizable, open, windowed renovated kitchen, and a dining room flanked by beautiful built-ins, including a hidden wine fridge. The living room is anchored by its dramatic high ceilings and even more built-ins under arched windows that lead to an alcove, perfect for an office or more storage. In addition, the main floor includes an enclosed sleeping area with a light infused glass cutout that is being used as a nursery with a crib and a full-sized bed. There is also a full, updated, windowed bathroom on this floor. Upstairs boasts an enormous bedroom that has its own sitting area, and a renovated en-suite bath with double sinks. There is a large walk-in closet in addition to another large reach-in closet. But that’s not all, the upstairs includes a separate open space that now hosts a home office. This unit also includes central air, washer/dryer, and recessed lighting. The Zachary was built in the 1800’s and was converted 35 years ago into condos. It has full-time door persons, and a great roof deck which has seating areas including a grilling station. There is a building community garden club that is open to all and shares fresh tomatoes, herbs and fruit. The neighborhood cannot be beat. Just steps to Union Square subway hub, the farmers market, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Westside market across the street. Great restaurants, movies, and shopping are on the doorstep. These owners are moving within the building, as many do, because they don’t want to leave!

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
