Property Description for 219 Jefferson Ave

Situated on one of Bedford-Stuyvesant’s most picturesque blocks, 219 Jefferson Avenue is a custom designed gem of a house like no other. While it shares many of the historic attributes of its Brooklyn brownstone neighbors, what sets this one apart is the way it has been reimagined for luxury modern living. This 2 unit approximately 4,000 sq ft house has been artfully restored and is dripping with custom designer features. Originally built in 1886 by Frederick D. Vrooman this airy 20' x 45'+ extension, 4 story home includes a gorgeous one-of-a-kind custom renovation. The house has a finished basement and has been fully rebuilt with all new mechanicals, finishes and fixtures, central alarm, sonos surround system and a multi-split HVAC system throughout. Upon entering the original mosaic tiled foyer you are greeted by the high ceilinged parlor floor which is replete with handsome original details and benefits from great staircase positioning and a beautiful Pierto Russo bookcase. Passing through the large front parlor beyond the beautiful restored staircase, you enter a sprawling and modern living and dining room filled with southern light and treetop views. Oak herringbone floors elevate the large main living space featuring the perfect marriage of original detail and design conscious, modern enhancements. Original recessed pocket window shutters and pocket doors all remain. The functional wood burning fireplaces have been restored and are complete with marble mantels and innate ironwork imported from London. Designer details are noticeable throughout including an exquisite Gabriel Scott light fixture in the living room and a Scalari 1960s chandelier in the foyer. The spacious and stunning contemporary kitchen is complete with an oversized Carrera marble island, high end stainless steel appliances including a wine cooler, and custom designed cabinetry. The kitchen/dining area has direct access to the deck with stairs leading down to the fantastic backyard fully landscaped by Brook Klausing of Brooks Landscape. There is easy access to a stunning powder room dedicated to the triplex unit on the ground floor. On the second floor you have two generously sized bedrooms currently configured as a full floor master suite complete with a spa-like ensuite, large walk-in closet, dressing room and a second full bath. The master bath features a waterworks tub, California faucets, custom designed privacy doors with inlaid beveled glass and brass fixtures. The marble sink, sleek vanity and hand laid wallpaper are true showstoppers. At the top, is a large full bath with washer/dryer hook up as well as two additional spacious beds, a center den with skylight and windowed office which is currently a perfect home to a Peloton. On the garden level is a beautifully appointed 2 bedroom / 2 full bath rental unit with a separate entrance. Fully integrated into the home, this space is ideal for an “in-law suite” or an additional source of rental income to offset your expenses. The basement is finished with a high ceiling, lights, dry walled exterior walls, ceramic tiled floor, and a refinished brick archway all making this a very functional recreation space and extra laundry room. We welcome you to make 219 Jefferson Avenue your new home!

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
