Property Description for 713 Halsey Street

This immaculate six-bedroom, three-bath townhome perfectly balances the classic elegance you would expect from a Brooklyn townhome with several fresh and contemporary design upgrades. Situated at the heart of one of Brooklyn’s most coveted neighborhoods, the property has undergone a wave of updates in recent years, starting with a 2015 gut renovation that added all-new plumbing and electric, central air and heating, a new furnace and hot water heater, temperature-controlled windows, as well as a full renovation of the kitchen and bathrooms. The previous owners also added a new roof in 2018, and recently refurbished the home’s exterior. The expert-level craftsmanship and attention to detail are clear from the moment you walk in, from the classic hardwood floors, gorgeous fireplace—one of three—and original crown molding in the spacious living room. Other original features, such as the banisters and pocket doors, have been thoughtfully preserved. The showstopper of a kitchen, meanwhile, provides a more modern flourish, complete with stainless steel appliances, wraparound granite countertops, and stunning cabinetry. The first floor alone also takes in a bedroom (which could double as an office), bathroom, and separate laundry room, as well as easy access to a back patio that overlooks the massive yard, which includes a raised garden with a built-in seating area, new pavers, and plenty of space for grilling. Two bedrooms—one of which includes its own fireplace—and two baths occupy the second floor, which features soaring, 10-foot ceilings, as well as a huge walk-in closet. The third floor, finally, is a retreat unto itself, where you’ll find three more bedrooms (including a third fireplace), a bathroom, and a second kitchen, making it an ideal rental or Airbnb space. As an added bonus, the finished basement takes in nearly 700 square feet of space, making it perfect for converting into a home theater, gym, or a play area for the kids.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
