Property Description for 689 Myrtle Ave, 2-C

Imagine the plants you could grow if you had 140 square feet of windows and the morning sun beaming in to your quintessential New York loft apartment! Hone your green thumb in this sunny wide-open space. The Chocolate Factory was built in 1947 and converted to condos in 2003 introducing Brooklyn’s first green roof--a unique 5000 sq. ft. tranquil garden space with panoramic views of Manhattan and Brooklyn plus a rooftop atrium gym, giving you everything you need right at home. Maintaining incredible 13' ceilings, magnificent pillars and industrial duct work this building truly epitomizes loft living. This expansive open plan loft has ample room for designated lounging, dining and entertaining as well as space for a home office. In fact, there's enough room to roller skate!! The open plan kitchen has plenty of cabinets and a granite counter top and bar that easily seats four. An incredible wall of custom shelving could accommodate even the biggest vinyl or book collection. A short flight of steps leads up to a queen sized bedroom with more custom shelving illuminated by a stylish light well, and is isolated from the main space by sliding glass doors. Underneath the bedroom is 100+ square feet of storage or flex space complete with Metro shelving. (The 80+ sq ft is in addition to the loft's 862 sq ft) The spacious bathroom features an oversized jacuzzi tub to relax in at the end of the day and includes an in-unit washer and dryer making laundry a breeze. The entrance hallway has another oversized closet and a super functional nook for coats and shoes. The dramatic ceiling height has been put to good use with two ceiling mounted bike lifts. There's plenty of room in the loft for even the biggest furniture and the building's large capacity elevator makes for effortless moving in, visiting the roof deck or storing your bike in the bike room. There's 24/7 video security and high speed Verizon Fios internet included in the building's low common charges. Wifi is also available to all residents on the roof if you prefer to work outside. The building just completed a facade renovation which will last for years to come. Right on the border of Bed Stuy and Clinton Hill, the bar and restaurant options abound. Pratt campus and the shops and cafes on Myrtle Avenue are a short stroll away as is Herbert Von King Park and the Kosciuszko pool. Also conveniently located in the vicinity is Fort Greene Park, Wegmans and the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The G train is 2 blocks away. Bike lanes and CitiBike stations are also all at your door. You came to New York to live in a loft! Come and get it! (OH by appointment only!! Please reach out!!)

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
