Property Description for 446A Classon Ave

A uniquely beautiful marriage of rustic architectural elements and sleek, modern additions, this enchanting 5 Bedroom, 3.5 Bath Clinton Hill Two Family has a distinctly sexy, European vibe. High ceilings with crisp original plaster moldings and medallions combine with stripped arched doorways with elaborate casings, creating an alluring juxtaposition of organic and refined that is a story that's seen and felt throughout the home. The Parlor level, with a coveted open plan, has a direct sightline through a bay of oversized windows at the back of the house, affording lovely views of green the minute you walk in the door. The light-filled living area has a huge window facing the tree-lined street and a custom built-in that runs the length of the wall with painted white cabinetry and a solid wood top. There is a convenient half bath, and tucked under the stair is a row of built-in closets and an office nook with a desk and shelving. The huge, Kitchen/dining room, undoubtedly the gathering place of the home, has a stunning carved, Marble mantel and a massive, solid wood island that conjures associations of somewhere in France, as well as built-in speakers for your Sonos. There is custom upper and lower cabinetry with a granite countertop and a charming built in bench and round table below the back wall of windows that fill the room with the most beautiful natural light. Off of the kitchen is an intimate deck where you can enjoy the chirping and chattering of birds under a beautiful canopy of trees, with stairs down to a sprawling backyard with endless possibilities for gardens of any kind. On the second floor are two huge bedrooms, both with the original marble mantels, great closets and a big, renovated bath with a clawfoot tub/shower combo. The gorgeous and seductive third floor, currently a Master Suite, feels like a world unto itself. Sensual, rustic elements like wide plank floors, exposed brick walls and rough hewn ceiling rafters are complemented by the refined simplicity of more beautiful custom millwork ~ a wall of closets with an integrated vanity in the bedroom and a wall of floor to ceiling shelving with and integrated desk in the sitting room/office.The spa-like, white marble ensuite bath has beautiful natural light from a skylight above, a huge glass enclosed shower with a deep soaking tub, double rain shower heads and a vanity with double sinks. Also on the third floor is a laundry closet with a full sized, front loading washer and dryer. The charming garden apartment has a living/dining area with a marble mantel, updated kitchen, one bedroom, a full bath and it's own washer/dryer. Take advantage of the strong rental history to offset your mortgage or easily reconfigure by opening up the internal stair that connects the garden to the owners triplex. The basement can be accessed through a hatch in the back yard and offers great storage, including a cedar closet for clothing. The house is equipped with split system AC units in the owners triplex. Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
