Bask in endless sunlight and spectacular views in this ultra-modern two-bedroom plus bonus room, two-and-a-half-bathroom penthouse in one of DUMBO's most revered condominiums. Spanning 2,209 square feet, this designer showplace greets you with dark wide-plank hardwood floors, tall ceilings and huge windows that frame the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights, the East River and city skyline. Just inside the gracious foyer, you'll find a powder room and an oversized utility room with an in-unit washer-dryer, making it easy to stow belongings and wash hands before entering the rest of the home. Ahead, the expansive corner great room offers wonderful light and a generous footprint for living and dining areas. A spiral staircase leads to the home's crowning glory —a 1,028 square foot roof deck featuring handsome furnishings, irrigated landscaping, a private cabana and sweeping postcard views. The coveted split-bedroom layout places the owner's suite along the western exposure where you'll enjoy Manhattan outlooks, a huge custom closet and serene CitiQuiet windows. The en suite marble bathroom features basketweave floors, a jetted soaking tub, walk-in rain shower and open marble vanity. The second bedroom features a walk-in closet and private bath of its own, and the spacious bonus room is ideal as a guest suite, nursery or a home office. The Sweeney Building is a 1908 Neo-Classical Industrial masterpiece by the W.H. Sweeney Manufacturing Corp. — makers of metal kitchenware. Converted to residential condominium use in 2003, today's residents enjoy full-time doorman service, a state-of-the-art fitness center, furnished roof deck with shimmering water views, storage cages and bike room. Located in the DUMBO Historic District, just a block from Brooklyn Bridge Park, this location grants a front-row seat to gorgeous waterfront open space, jaw-dropping views and endless recreation. The fantastic Empire Stores and St. Ann's Warehouse deliver world-class shopping and entertainment, while the local dining scene features great spots for seafood, French and Italian cuisine. A/C, F, 2/3, R and 4/5 trains and the Fulton Ferry Landing provide effortless access to the rest of the city.

Dumbo | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

DUMBO, which is an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, used to be a lively industrial and manufacturing zone, full of large factories and warehouses. These buildings have now been converted into expansive lofts, theaters, galleries, and office spaces for start-up companies. These larger residential spaces are attractive to families and creative artists and writers who need space to dream and create.

DUMBO was named in 1978 as a sort of reverse marketing ploy to try to keep people from swarming into the area, attracted by the quaint tree-lined streets, elegant historic brownstones, large lofts, and views of Lower Manhattan. It was felt that this influx of people would change the nature of the neighborhood. It was hoped that by giving the area a ridiculous name, nobody would want to live there.

Many of the neighborhood’s bars, hotels, and restaurants capitalize on the stunning waterfront views and the Manhattan skyline in the background. Interesting and fun cultural events are held under and around the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges that connect DUMBO to Manhattan. One of these is the annual Oktoberfest.

With beautiful vignettes of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges being framed around every corner, DUMBO provides residents and tourists with charming, and often surprising, views. Because the neighborhood is eminently walkable and filled with unique shops, it feels like a small town on the edge of a major urban waterfront. Once people move to DUMBO, they tend to stay and become involved in the community.
