Property Description for 1071 Herkimer Street

Welcome to 1071 Herkimer Street, a stunning single family home that was lovingly renovated by its owners in 2015 and looks like it was plucked from the pages of a design magazine. Blending original details with modern upgrades, the garden level of this ultra stylish brick home features a spacious living room with new windows, original wood shutters, a beautiful decorative fireplace and mantel, white oak floors, an open kitchen with granite counters, a center island, Semihandmade custom cabinet doors, Fireclay tiles, Schoolhouse Electric fixtures and gorgeous shelves made from reclaimed wood. The kitchen island has stools for enjoying your morning coffee or a casual meal while the adjacent dining room includes a built-in banquette with ample space for a large table and beadboard on the ceiling. The dining room overlooks the home's lovely garden and sleek French doors allow plenty of natural sunlight to stream in all day. A gorgeous formal living room awaits on the parlor level, as well as a comfy den. Both spaces feature crown molding, custom built in cabinetry, gorgeous decorative fireplaces with mantels and original hardwood floors. The current owners used these as additional living space but they can easily function as bedrooms instead. The full bathroom on this level really wows with ceramic Cle tiles, a Waterworks toilet and Rubinet brass faucets. The top floor has a large, south-facing master bedroom with three windows and yet another lovely decorative fireplace and mantel, a charming second bedroom with an original tin ceiling and a sweet office with a decorative ceiling as well. This floor has beautiful original hardwood floors, another full bathroom and ample closet space. Rarely does a home come along that's been so tastefully upgraded while preserving so much of the original details. Once you settle in, you might never want to leave! But when you must, enjoy easy access to transportation with the C train at Ralph Avenue and the JZ at Chauncey and some of Bed-Stuy's most popular restaurants, shops and cafes including Chez Oskar, Nana Ramen, Milk & Pull Coffee, Trad Room, Halsey Traders, and Casablanca Cocktail Lounge. Saratoga Park is just eight blocks away when you need some nature. Call or email to schedule a viewing today!

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
