Property Description for 682 Decatur Street

Charm, character and tons of space to enjoy both inside and out. This eclectic two family Bedford Stuyvesant home brings these words to mind. It's 20 feet wide with about 2,700 sq. ft of living space plus a full basement. In case you'd like to expand one day, the estimated unused FAR is about 2,160 sq. ft.

It is completely livable so you can move right in and renovate when and how you see fit. It is configured as a lower duplex on the parlor and garden levels with large rear yard and basement below a sprawling rental with two bedrooms plus a study on the top floor. Quite a few original details remain, including five decorative mantles, ceiling medallions, and ornately carved woodwork, windows with stained glass windows and stately doors about seven feet tall. The rear yard is pleasant and peaceful. Spanning about 900 sq. ft., it has been nicely divided between a sitting area with pavers and a garden with just enough space to satisfy your green thumb.

Many options for transportation surround this home - the C train at Ralph Avenue and the J/Z trains at Halsey Street and many bus lines are nearby. You'll find lots to explore in the area including Saratoga Park and great cafes and shops like Macdonough Cafe, Lady Moo Moo Ice Cream, Top Tier, Sonora, Greedi Kitchen, Little Skips East, Uncle Fred's, Butch & Coco and Tandoori Masala.

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
