Property Description for 284 Fifth Ave, 8-C

Welcome home to 8C at 284 Fifth Avenue. This stunningly beautiful apartment is truly a dream coming true for anyone who appreciates the beauty of turn of the century. All historical details are carefully preserved with soaring 11 feet ceilings and elegant molding details throughout; fireplace, two large windows facing south lending openness and fantastic light.

Open kitchen equipped with stainless steel appliances including dishwasher, granite counter top and cherry wood cabinets; two big walkin closets. The apartment can be rented furnished.

Built in 1890 by the prominent Scottish-American jeweler William Moir, the Wilbraham is a strikingly handsome Romanesque Revival-style building, graced by rock-faced stonework and intricately-carved stone details. It stands eight stately stories under a verdigris copper-covered mansard roof. In June 2004 the building was awarded landmark status. There is also an elevator, laundry and live-in super for your convenience. The hallway just underwent a remodeling in 2014 and is very well maintained. Liberal sublet policy and acceptance of pied-a-terre make it attractive to a even broader audience. The burgeoning NoMad district is very centrally located, surrounded by landmarks like Madison Square Park and Flat Iron Building, celebrated by numerous great restaurants such as ILILI and Eleven Madison Square Park, and adorned with some fun spots like Eataly and Sex Museum. Multiple subway lines (Red, Orange, Yellow and Green) are at your fingertip.

NoMad | Manhattan

Quick Profile

NoMad, North of Madison Square Park, is a rectangular swath of land that is bordered by East 25th Street to the south, East 29th Street to the north, Sixth Avenue to the west, and depending who you ask, Madison or Lexington Avenue to the East. It’s had its acronymed name for over two decades but not every New Yorker calls the neighborhood NoMad.

Historic architecture, trendy hotels and restaurants and high-priced apartments - NoMad wasn’t always the coveted neighborhood that it is today. It’s gone through many transformations over the years. Including a red light district known as the Tenderloin in the 1880’s. It was a popular shopping destination and a place where high society held court in the mid 19th century. It was part of New York City’s Silicon Alley in the 1990’s.

As of lately, world class chefs and restaurants have moved into NoMad. It’s tied with Midtown Manhattan for having the most Michelin stars (six stars to date). Besides NoMad’s architecture, nightlife, and restaurants, we can’t forget the added perk of being close to other great neighborhoods and cultural institutions. NoMad’s central location makes it easier to get just about anywhere in the city. You can walk to Chelsea, West Village, Union Square or Grand Central Station in no time at all. The N, R, 1, 6, B, Q, F, and M are very close or just a few blocks away. Penn Station is also within walking distance.
