Property Description for 153 Monroe Street

153 Monroe Street was originally constructed in 1899. This newly renovated home features a combination of modern smart home technology along with a functional and spacious layout. This home is an 18-foot wide, 40-foot long, four-story frame townhouse. The owner’s triplex offers four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a powder room, a front porch and back deck, as well as a backyard. The garden level rental features two beds, one bath and a considerable potential rental income with the option to include the finished cellar. Upon entering the original arched doors on the parlor level, you are greeted by an open, airy layout that provides enough space for dedicated dining and living areas. The living room is adorned with a decorative fireplace and tall 11-foot ceilings. The kitchen features custom cabinetry and quartz countertops, a large island in the center, as well as a full complement of Viking appliances; including a six-burner stove, dishwasher, microwave as well as a Frigidaire Professional refrigerator and full-sized freezer. The floor-to-ceiling windows provide an abundance of light with both Northern and Southern exposures. The house has state of the art technology featuring a Control 4 system with wireless surround sound throughout the parlor floor and master bathroom, as well as Lutron lighting and a dual-zone central air system with Nest thermostats. On the second floor, you find the king-sized primary bedroom which has a large walk-in closet and a substantial, windowed ensuite bathroom. The five-fixture primary bathroom features a double vanity, glass-enclosed shower, deep-soaking tub, and decorative original mantle. A dedicated laundry room is conveniently located on the same floor. The third-floor houses three bedrooms and two full bathrooms, ample space to accommodate a family and guests. The finished basement is connected to the owner's triplex and can be transformed into a large media den or a playroom. The separate garden floor two-bedroom unit can serve as an income-producing property or in-law apartment. This prime Bedstuy location offers a diverse selection of bustling establishments such as Brooklyn House of Comedy, Peaches Hothouse, Bar Camilo, Pilar Cuban Bakery, Stonefruit Coffee, The Corners, Do or Dive Bar to name a few. Grocery shopping is only moments away from either Key Food on Nostrand Ave or Metropolitan Citymarket on Bedford. This home is conveniently located a few blocks from the Bedford-Nostrand Ave and Nostrand Ave stations serving the G, A/C trains, rendering your commute to Union Square just 30 minutes.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
