Property Description for 260 West Broadway, 11-A

Own one of the most incredible penthouse residences in the city, featured on the cover of Architectural Digest, this residence seamlessly marries significant architectural details and proportion with modern design. One of most striking features of this penthouse is an oak-paneled rotunda approximately 28 feet in diameter with a 25’ high domed ceiling and spectacular stained-glass oculus. Other details include original mosaic tiled floors from 1896 and a concealed wet-bar for entertaining. The rotunda originally served as the dining room for members of the New-York Wool Exchange, the original tenant for 260 West Broadway. This penthouse features soaring 12’ ceilings throughout with an expansive living room, ideal for entertaining. The living room enjoys bright Southern and Eastern facing exposures with open views of Downtown Manhattan and a wood burning fireplace, this room has beautifully preserved moldings with loft like proportions and pre-war charm. Modernly designed by Thomas O'Brien of Aero Studios, the kitchen includes floor to ceiling linen and glass paneled accordion doors that open onto the living room. The kitchen is outfitted with appliances by Sub-Zero and Viking, complemented by large exposures, a wooden island and marble throughout. The master bedroom suite features two private dressing rooms with custom lacquer millwork, a wood burning fireplace with an original mantle and a stunning bathroom clad in floor to ceiling marble. Alternative floorplans are for visualization use and subject to approval, please consult your own architect. 260 West Broadway Designed by William B. Tubby in the Renaissance revival style, this iconic building was built by the New York Wool Warehouse Company as the New York Wool Exchange in 1896 and is a part of the National Register of Historic Places. Converted to condominiums in the 1980’s, residents enjoy a 24-hour doorman, gym, and a private roof deck. Its impressive facade curves from Beach Street into West Broadway locating it in one of the best blocks where Tribeca meets SoHo with access to excellent dining, shopping, and transportation.

Quick Profile

TriBeCa, named after the small geographic triangle below Canal Street. It’s not really a triangle, it's a quadrilateral and it's bounded by West Street, Broadway, and Chambers Street. It’s a little too late for a name change and besides, QuaBeCa doesn't sound half as cool as Tribeca.

One of New York City’s more notable acronymed neighborhoods, TriBeCa is known for its trendy boutiques, fabolous restaurants, historical landmarks, and resident celebrity lofts. It still holds the title of one of the coolest places to live in New York City.

TriBeCa is one of the first residential neighborhoods of New York City. Way back in 1700’s wealthy New Yorkers built homes and maintained gardens in what is now TriBeca.

Later in history it shifted from residential to warehouses, commerce and markets. After the Civil War, shipping hubs moved from the East River to the Hudson River and revitalized areas like the South Street Seaport and TriBeca. When shipping and commerce increased, the area soon became a favorite spot for wholesalers to store their goods in large industrial warehouses.

Just like its neighbor SoHo, TriBeCa boasts one of the world’s largest collections of wrought-iron facades and Neo-Grecian architecture.
