Property Description for 417 East 57th Street, PH

Every once in a while a special home comes along for rent and this is that apartment. Situated on the top 4 floors of a full service high-rise residential building comes this incredible, light filled and super Private Penthouse with PRIVATE POOL! Fashionably furnished with custom and signature furniture and overlooking the city with panoramic SKYLINE and RIVER VIEWS in 4 directions with multiple outdoor spaces - you simply cannot beat this extraordinary apartment.

As you enter through your private elevator landing and walk into this home you are met with a double height living room! Spacious and large with floor to ceiling windows, 2 balconies, large art walls and a floating staircase this is the ultimate room to entertain in! The dining room seats 10 comfortably and has some incredible pieces of vintage mid-century furniture and custom drapery. Separated from the dining room is a Chef’s professional stainless steel kitchen with numerous dishwashers, ovens, grill, pantry, plenty of counter space for prep and a separate sitting area. Featuring top of the line appliances from Subzero and Gaggenau, this kitchen is truly stunning and is large enough to accommodate a gorgeous breakfast table to take your morning cup of coffee and breakfast with the southern views of the Midtown Skyline and East River as your backdrop. Off of the kitchen is another massive living room with large television and the same skyline views. While informal in nature it also doubles as a second office. A powder room and an additional bedroom and bathroom complete this floor.

Looping around and one flight up, the floating staircase is the Primary Bedroom Floor. With a mezzanine perfect for art that overlooks the great room, the full floor suite is truly spectacular. Behind custom milled doors you enter the primary bedroom suite which features massive custom closets, a large sleeping quarter, private gym, separate office and 2 full stately marble bathrooms with gorgeous fixtures. With several balconies and stunning city and river views this is truly one of the finest suites in the city.

Up one more floor is an informal lounge area with teak wood, large windows and a television sitting area along with a private custom lap pool. Swim laps and reflect when the day is done with unobstructed views of the seminal Midtown Manhattan Skyline. Jaw-dropping and one of a kind, this must be seen to be understood and appreciated in full. On the other side of the full floor is a landscaped private roof deck with more views for miles. Watch planes take off from JFK or the twinkle of the Chrysler Building or new additions to your Manhattan skyline like One Vanderbilt and the MOMA Tower.

Down one level from the main floor are 3 more bedrooms (one which is perfect for a live-in with a separate kitchen and separate entrance) several bathrooms, butlers pantry and another informal living/play area.

Located in quiet, historic, and charming tree-lined Sutton Place you are close to Midtown, the FDR and tunnels and bridges but above it all in a one of a kind trophy penthouse home!

Sutton Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Sutton Place is usually described with favorable words like charming, cozy, great neighborhood, hidden gem, sanctuary, or even small village inside a big city. Those descriptions aren’t from real estate folks either, they’re from the people that live and work there, so it must be true.

The quiet and upscale neighborhood is more like an enclave. It’s bounded by East 53rd Street to the south, East 59th Street to the North, First Avenue to the west, and the East River to the east. Most residents will tell you that everything you’ll ever need is located in the neighborhood. When it’s time to venture out into the cityscape, Sutton Place is within easy reach to Midtown and cultural attractions like the Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and other iconic sites.

Manhattan has always had notable celebrity residents. But for unknown reasons, Sutton Place has had more than its share of superstars over the years. Some of the more iconic celebs include: Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, Freddie Mercury, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Crawford, Michael Jackson and sister Latoya (Just for one summer).

Sutton Place is named after Effingham B. Sutton, a shipping merchant and entrepreneur. After hitting it big in the California gold rush, Sutton built brownstones along East 57th and East 58th streets with aspirations of making the section more residential. Poverty and crime dashed his dreams. The street gangs that hung out along the dead-ends and cul-de-sacs added to the neighborhood’s decay. Sutton was about to give up on his development endeavors but the Vanderbilt’s and the Morgan’s showed up in the 1920s and transformed the neighborhood. It soon became a wealthy enclave.
