Property Description for 206 Lewis Ave, GARDEN

206 Lewis Avenue, Garden is a renovated and spacious two bedroom plus home in a classic two-family brownstone in Stuyvesant Heights. It's been recently gut renovated in a simple, classic and contemporary style with preserved brick accents that nod to its past. While it doesn't come with backyard access, you will have a private washer and dryer and shared access to an enormous recreational space for additional living, working and storage. The great room of the home with beautiful new wood floors, high ceilings, brick accents and three modern front windows, faces east over the front garden, and has plenty of space to create separate living, dining, kitchen and work areas. The big, L-shaped, open kitchen with a full-suite of new, full-sized stainless steel appliances including a microwave and dishwasher, begs for entertaining. The new double-paned windows let in the sun and keep out the noise. Central air throughout is a civilized way to live in summer and winter. The clean and contemporary bath has a glass shower and tub and slate accents. Two queen-sized bedrooms and plenty of closets are nestled quietly in the back of the house. If you need only one bedroom, the second is perfect for a quiet office. If you need two bedrooms and want another work-from-home space, the lucky tenant has the bonus use of nearly 900 square feet of semi-private space in the basement as well as your own dedicated washer and dryer. With your front garden, private entrance, video security and access to the best of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Bushwick, this home at 206 Lewis Avenue is not to be missed. Sorry, pets and smoking are not allowed; however, there is no brokers' fee and no application fees, and only $20 per applicant in credit checks. This can be rented furnished or unfurnished for the same price.

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
