Property Description for 90 West Broadway, 2-A

A fabulous work from home corner loft, this rarely available, light-filled apartment features oversized windows throughout and soaring ceilings of over 13’. Bright, spacious, and full of character, this pre-war gem is available immediately.

Once the executive offices of the New York National Exchange Bank, grand proportions and original detail abound throughout the building and the loft, including a terrazzo tiled foyer that leads to the entrance to the apartment. With perfect proportions for spending more time at home, the building includes an outdoor escape to a beautifully landscaped common roof terrace with a pantry kitchen, powder room and panoramic views of the city.

A true 1 bedroom, the apartment is complete with a sprawling mezzanine that can be used as an additional sleeping space or home office. The main living space is over 20’ wide and contains a sturdy steel spiral staircase to the mezzanine as well as a chef’s kitchen which is complete with white cabinets, butcher block countertops, and stainless steel appliances including Thermador double ovens, warming drawer, dishwasher, gas range and a refrigerator.

The oversized windows continue into the bedroom and feature a stunning view of 56 Leonard. With a wall of closets and another mezzanine loft, there is an abundance of storage. The windowed bathroom includes a beautiful mosaic bathtub shower combination. Common laundry room and additional powder room on the floor.

Built in 1895 as the New York National Exchange Bank Building and designed by Harding and Gooch, the Gerken Building is a prestigious prewar cooperative. This 14-story elevator building features virtual doorman, package room and a common roof deck. Convenient to all that Tribeca has to offer including nearby Hudson River Park, the extensive world-class dining and shopping amenities of this charming and dynamic neighborhood, Whole Foods, and Washington Market Park. The 1, 2, and 3 trains are right outside the front door. Sorry, no pets.

Quick Profile

TriBeCa, named after the small geographic triangle below Canal Street. It’s not really a triangle, it's a quadrilateral and it's bounded by West Street, Broadway, and Chambers Street. It’s a little too late for a name change and besides, QuaBeCa doesn't sound half as cool as Tribeca.

One of New York City’s more notable acronymed neighborhoods, TriBeCa is known for its trendy boutiques, fabolous restaurants, historical landmarks, and resident celebrity lofts. It still holds the title of one of the coolest places to live in New York City.

TriBeCa is one of the first residential neighborhoods of New York City. Way back in 1700’s wealthy New Yorkers built homes and maintained gardens in what is now TriBeca.

Later in history it shifted from residential to warehouses, commerce and markets. After the Civil War, shipping hubs moved from the East River to the Hudson River and revitalized areas like the South Street Seaport and TriBeca. When shipping and commerce increased, the area soon became a favorite spot for wholesalers to store their goods in large industrial warehouses.

Just like its neighbor SoHo, TriBeCa boasts one of the world’s largest collections of wrought-iron facades and Neo-Grecian architecture.
