Property Description for 30 Main Street, 11-G

30 Main Street offers the height of luxury loft living in coveted DUMBO, Brooklyn. Out its windows are protected views of Downtown Manhattan, the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge and the East River. Apartment 11G at 30 Main sits atop an historically significant DUMBO pre-war, full service condominium building, The Sweeney. The apartment features an almost 50-foot long living space, two bedrooms and a large home office/third bedroom, a laundry room, two full and one half bathrooms, 11.5-foot ceilings, and truly embodies the essence of DUMBO living. A gracious entry gallery greets you with a custom, built-in bench, coat and shoe storage as well as a wallpapered powder room. Past the entrance, the true magnitude of the space and views is evident. At the southern end of the living space is a large chef’s kitchen, a large marble island with stool seating, custom tiled backsplash, and reclaimed wood exposed shelving. Adjacent to the kitchen is a large dining area, flooded with light from southern facing arched windows, a perfect setting for festive gatherings, elegant dinner parties or casual weeknight dinners. Past the dining space is the cornered living room. With southern, western and northern facing windows, one can sit down and take in uninterrupted views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan Bridge and Downtown Manhattan all at once. Whether you enjoy sunset light bouncing off the bridges, or watching the ferries, tugboats and water taxis shuttling across the east river or gazing at the ever evolving Manhattan skyline, the natural entertainment provided by these protected views is incomparable. Off the living room is the ensuite master bedroom, with magical views of its own. Wake up every morning to the span of the Manhattan Bridge over the East River and fall asleep every night to the lights of the DUMBO clocktower. The bedroom itself has 11.5-foot ceilings, a fully shelved walk-in closet and plenty of room for both king size bedroom furniture and a home office. The ensuite bathroom has a full-sized jacuzzi tub, double marble vanity sink, a large walk-in shower, and custom, built-in storage. Separated from the master bedroom, located on the western facing wall, is the second bedroom. Three beautiful, arched windows, stream in plentiful sunlight. Measuring 13 by 12 feet, with a large closet, this bedroom easily fits all types of bedroom furniture. Across the hall is the second bathroom, outfitted with classic white subway tiles, a bathtub and a marble countertop vanity sink. At the front of the apartment is the home office, den or (as is currently being used) 3rd bedroom with fresh air intake. The Sweeney building was originally built as the factory and warehouse for the W.H. Sweeney Manufacturing Company, a prolific Brooklyn kitchenware company. In 2008 the building was converted to condominium residences by Two Trees and has since come to embody what residential loft living is in DUMBO. A full-service building, there is a 24-hour doorman, live-in super, a gym, bike storage, a furnished roof deck, and storage cages available for rent. The Sweeney's location is second to none in DUMBO. With Jane’s Carousel, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and endless waterfront right at your fingertips, the city’s landmarks are your backyard.

Dumbo | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

DUMBO, which is an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, used to be a lively industrial and manufacturing zone, full of large factories and warehouses. These buildings have now been converted into expansive lofts, theaters, galleries, and office spaces for start-up companies. These larger residential spaces are attractive to families and creative artists and writers who need space to dream and create.

DUMBO was named in 1978 as a sort of reverse marketing ploy to try to keep people from swarming into the area, attracted by the quaint tree-lined streets, elegant historic brownstones, large lofts, and views of Lower Manhattan. It was felt that this influx of people would change the nature of the neighborhood. It was hoped that by giving the area a ridiculous name, nobody would want to live there.

Many of the neighborhood’s bars, hotels, and restaurants capitalize on the stunning waterfront views and the Manhattan skyline in the background. Interesting and fun cultural events are held under and around the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges that connect DUMBO to Manhattan. One of these is the annual Oktoberfest.

With beautiful vignettes of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges being framed around every corner, DUMBO provides residents and tourists with charming, and often surprising, views. Because the neighborhood is eminently walkable and filled with unique shops, it feels like a small town on the edge of a major urban waterfront. Once people move to DUMBO, they tend to stay and become involved in the community.
