Property Description for 55 White Street, 2-C

Extraordinary Tribeca loft living is yours in this bright, airy, three-bedroom, two-bathroom showplace in a landmarked cast-iron building. Spanning nearly 2,000 square feet, this expansive corner home is filled with sunlight thanks to nine oversized windows on the eastern, southern and western exposures. Original cast-iron columns support soaring 13-foot ceilings while deep-stained hardwood floors provide a gorgeous contrast to the light neutral, minimalist design scheme. A gracious foyer ushers you to the breathtaking corner great room where a marble fireplace and built-ins create a beautiful backdrop for lavish living and dining areas. Set between the original Corinthian columns, the sleek open kitchen boasts streamlined cabinetry and upscale integrated and stainless steel appliances. Head to the east-facing owner's suite to find three huge custom closets, including two walk-ins — one large enough to accommodate a private home office. The en suite bathroom dazzles with its sculptural soaking tub, wide floating vanity and walk-in shower. Two more bedrooms sit along the southern and western exposures and share an ultra-modern guest bath with floor-to-ceiling tile and a large tub/shower. A huge pantry/utility room, laundry closet and coat closet add superb convenience to this incredibly serene Tribeca residence. Built in 1861, 55 White Street is both situated within the Tribeca East Historic District and designated as an individual landmark for its important cast-iron facade of double-height arcades and massive windows. Originally occupied by textile firms, today, the building is a boutique, pet-friendly condominium offering a bike room, magnificent common roof deck, a virtual security system and a full-time super for added convenience and ease of living. From its perfect position near the border of Tribeca and Soho, this home offers a front-row seat to remarkable Downtown living. Renowned galleries, boutiques and restaurants fill the local streets. City Hall and Hudson River parks are all within easy reach, and transportation options are abundant with N/Q/R/W, J/Z, 4/5/6, A/C/E and 1 trains, buses, CitiBikes, bridges and tunnels all within easy reach.

Quick Profile

TriBeCa, named after the small geographic triangle below Canal Street. It’s not really a triangle, it's a quadrilateral and it's bounded by West Street, Broadway, and Chambers Street. It’s a little too late for a name change and besides, QuaBeCa doesn't sound half as cool as Tribeca.

One of New York City’s more notable acronymed neighborhoods, TriBeCa is known for its trendy boutiques, fabolous restaurants, historical landmarks, and resident celebrity lofts. It still holds the title of one of the coolest places to live in New York City.

TriBeCa is one of the first residential neighborhoods of New York City. Way back in 1700’s wealthy New Yorkers built homes and maintained gardens in what is now TriBeca.

Later in history it shifted from residential to warehouses, commerce and markets. After the Civil War, shipping hubs moved from the East River to the Hudson River and revitalized areas like the South Street Seaport and TriBeca. When shipping and commerce increased, the area soon became a favorite spot for wholesalers to store their goods in large industrial warehouses.

Just like its neighbor SoHo, TriBeCa boasts one of the world’s largest collections of wrought-iron facades and Neo-Grecian architecture.
