Property Description for 249 Patchen Ave

249 Patchen Avenue, the rare gem you have been searching for. This single-family townhouse features 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and a large backyard perfect for an afternoon with friends. Set in the heart of Bedford Stuyvesant, this desirable residence has all the ingredients of the perfect home. As you enter the duplex, you are greeted by a warm, original detailed foyer finished with tiled floors and ample storage area. You realize the breadth of space as the tall ceilings let the natural light radiate throughout. To the right, a bright and airy living room where you'll enjoy the perfect setting for relaxing and entertaining. Straight ahead is a newly renovated full bathroom finished with honeycomb tiled walls, concrete floor tiles, and a walk-in shower. A large dining area is positioned toward the back of the house and is adjacent to an alcove which can easily serve as a home office. The kitchen has a generously sized layout with several windows that allow the morning light in. It is finished with stainless steel appliances, wood cabinetry, and oak countertops. It leads out to a small herb garden terrace that overlooks the spacious backyard. Upstairs you find three bedrooms and one full bathroom. The king-sized primary bedroom faces the serene backyard garden and features two windows. The substantial bathroom is a throwback, finished with mint-green tiled walls, mosaic tiles floor, and a cast iron tub. Toward the front of the house, there are two well-proportioned bedrooms with lofted ceilings. The basement has a laundry area; and with its great ceiling height, the space could be easily transformed into a rec room. This townhouse is located on a beautiful, tree-lined street in the heart of Bedford Stuyvesant. You are moments away from great dining establishments such as L'Antagoniste, Chez Oskar, The Willy, Saraghina's, and Peaches as well as three local parks that feature playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts. Along with two community gardens. The acclaimed Co-op School recently opened a few short blocks away, which is quickly becoming a draw to the neighborhood. Nearby public transportation includes the A/C & J trains or the Halsey B26, and JFK is a short 20-minute drive.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
