Property Description for 512 Decatur Street

Bright and Peaceful, 5 Bedroom, 4 Bath Bedford Stuyvesant Brownstone with amazing finished basement and serene backyard! This Elegant and beautiful Renaissance Revival townhouse has incredible income producing potential and versatility! A legal two family configured as a three and meticulously renovated by the owner, this exceptional property is a perfect union of modern energy-efficient green living, and beautifully preserved turn of the century craftsmanship. Original detail including pocket doors, decorative mantels, vibrant stained glass and moldings are respectfully honored here. From the minute you enter the garden level the serene vibe is unmistakable. Light wood floors, a coveted open plan with a wood burning fireplace, and a direct sightline through a wall of glass doors to your deep magical garden oasis that is lush with greenery, paved with flagstones and ripe for design! The kitchen is well equipped with custom cabinetry, Quartz countertops, an all glass front Sub Zero refrigerator, 4 burner stove and Bosch dishwasher. There are two ingenious Walk On skylights built into the floor that allow beautiful natural light from the garden to pour into the basement below. Not your ordinary basement, this is a fully finished basement with beautiful wood floors and great ceiling height, that has been outfitted as a functioning sound studio, but could be a fabulous flex office space or sleeping room. In a separate area, there is also a top of the line stackable washer/dryer, and room for a workbench. The garden level bath is beautiful in its simplicity and has both a bathtub and a European style shower, while a strategically placed window allows for natural light and air. Up the stoop, and through the original wood doors, with detailing and artisan restored stained glass, you enter the parlor floor. The walls in the entry hall are a warm exposed brick, and there is a huge pier mirror with a convenient bench. Original pocket doors open to a sun filled one bedroom with the original parquet floors, the original decorative fireplace mantels (one in each room), vibrant stained glass and all of the original moldings. There is an efficient eat-in kitchen, full bath and generous closet space. The upper duplex of 512 Decatur is awash with sunlight coming from the six skylights that were added to the house-- two of which pass through both floors—creating the wonderful feeling of space and height. There is a renovated eat-in-kitchen with ample cabinetry, stone counters and stove and refrigerator, and three well-proportioned bedrooms, all with lovely wood floors, exposed brick, and another decorative fireplace. The bathrooms are completely new, with tiled white walls and azure blue floors. Located in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant, this unique property has been completely renovated inside and out, with a thoughtful eye and keen sensibility. No expense was spared to create this tranquil and green home, a marriage of modern innovation and coveted brownstone architecture, all in the heart of a beautiful neighborhood rich in history! Nearby transportation includes the A, C, J, M, and Z trains, and popular local eateries include Chez Oskar, Sonora, Doc’s Cake Shop, Nana Ramen, and Bed-Stuy Fish Fry to name a few. A comprehensive list of all upgrades and improvements is available upon request.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
