Property Description for 655 19th Street

Just listed! This turn-of-the-century home is in excellent move-in condition and is a terrific condo or coop alternative. Set on a lovely tree-lined block, this brick two-story brick gem features a sweet front porch, a big backyard, and very usable basement space. It has had a number of upgrades, including central-air-conditioning. On the first floor, you will find an open living/dining room with original pine floors and lovely light from windows front and rear. The kitchen is in the extension, offering ample oak cabinetry and space for a breakfast table. The tree-shaded backyard is accessed through a small utility room off the kichen. The original staircase takes you upstairs to the full-width master bedroom, filled with light from three southwest windows. A second bedroom is in the rear, as is the renovated bathroom. The basement level offers a large open space suitable for rec room/media room, as well as a front utility room with sidewalk access. The laundry room in the rear houses the furnace and the new "tankless" hot water heater, as well as the full-size washer and dryer. There is also a full bath with stall shower on this level. With taxes under $400/month, this home represents a substantial savings over coops and condos of similar size. Street parking is easy and the F and G trains are near. Don't delay!

Windsor Terrace | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

The tiny, comma-shaped neighborhood of Windsor Terrace is bookended between two of Brooklyn’s largest green spaces, Prospect Park and the massive Green-Wood cemetery. Aside from the presence of the Prospect Park Expressway, which dissects the neighborhood in two, this residential community offers a suburban sensibility with its tree-lined streets, low volume traffic and the low height character of its streetscape.

Many homes in the area are low to the ground, lending a suburban feel to the neighborhood, and the area has been down-zoned to maintain its low-rise appeal and character. There are plentiful brick row houses that have very low turnover. If you are lucky enough to buy or rent one, you tend to hold on to it. There are also small apartment buildings, private homes, condos and multi-family homes in a wide price range

There is commercial development along Prospect Park West, Fort Hamilton Parkway and Prospect Avenue, but even these new stores and restaurants are mostly family-owned and operated, maintaining the small-town charm. The pace of life is slower. The schools are good, which is a big draw for families with young children. The people are friendly, which gives a real sense of neighborhood and community to Windsor Terrace.
