Property Description for 420 Riverside Drive, 9-F

Sun flooded high floor Edwardian 6 at The Hamilton.

Designed by Gaetano Ajello in 1912, 420 Riverside Drive is the epitome of Edwardian apartment design. A generous 16-foot gallery opens to the sunny south-facing living room with oversized windows, decorative fireplace, French doors and open city views. The large formal dining room with oak paneling and a wood beamed ceiling has been opened to the kitchen, perfectly suited for today's lifestyle.

The updated kitchen blends the best of old and new, with original built-in cabinets and pantry, and a modern center island with seating. There are new stainless steel appliances and lighting.

Adjacent to the kitchen is bedroom/office with half bath and washer/dryer, easily converted to a full bath. The bedroom wing holds two large bedrooms, one with picture perfect views of the Hudson, and an updated windowed bath.

Features throughout the home are nearly 10 foot ceilings, picture moldings, and honey oak floors with inlaid borders.

420 Riverside is a full service building with a full time doorman, live-in resident manager, fitness center, a landscaped roof deck overlooking the Hudson River, children's room, private storage, bike room, laundry room and a host of other conveniences for the shareholders.. All this with Riverside Park as your front yard and cafes, bookstores, shopping, gourmet markets and easy transportation just a block away in the dynamic Upper West Side/Columbia/Morningside neighborhood.

Morningside Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Due to the large number of institutes of higher learning that are housed within its borders, most notably Columbia University, Morningside Heights has a very definite college-town vibe. It has been dubbed the “Academic Acropolis,” both for the large number of schools and for the fact that the neighborhood is built high atop the Manhattan schist bluffs that are the geological bedrock of NYC. From this vantage point, which is the highest point of land in all of Manhattan, you can take in stunning views of upper Manhattan and the Hudson River. Sunsets are especially breathtaking from Riverside Park.

Walk through Morningside Heights and you’ll see a diverse population, especially when the schools are in session. It has a generally quiet atmosphere, bounded by large green spaces, dotted with small cafes, specialty stores, and restaurants that offer all manner of international cuisine. There is a modest nightlife consisting of intimate bars and small musical venues, many of which are open to the wee hours of the morning, and frequented by students.

Housing is primarily pre-war buildings that have larger apartments and beautiful architecture clustered around Broadway. You can find affordable walk-ups in low-rise buildings on the side streets. Many of the residential buildings in the area actually are owned by Columbia University.
