Property Description for 50 Central Park West, 8/9-A

Truly one of the grandest buildings in New York, the Prasada, is one of three buildings that established Central Park West as an avenue of great prestige and is a wonderful example of Beaux-Arts architecture. Commissioned by the King of Spain, designed by Charles W. Romeyn & Henry R. Wynne, 50 Central Park West was built by Franklin & Samuel Haines beginning in 1905 and completed in 1907. The elegance and grand layouts of the building made the Prasada one of the first "high-rises" that drew wealthy individuals out of townhouse living.

Residence 8/9A at the Prasada is the only duplex apartment in the building with direct park views, making it a one of a kind home with 2 floors of enfiladed rooms on the park. A perfect combination of turn of the century details with a clean and classic renovation, this home is a seamless blend of the old and the new; new large windows, including some bay windows, crisp ornate moldings and mantels, stunning new rich hard wood floors, soaring ceilings and central air perfectly concealed from even a discerning eye.

Each floor of this duplex has 45 feet of direct park frontage with simply fabulous views. The level of the 8th and 9th floors is often called the "architects floors" because one gets a full view of trees and the park as well as the Fifth Avenue skyline and the Southern light.

World renowned Noel Jeffrey creatively designed this masterful home. Living, entertaining and children/guest/staff sleeping quarters are on one floor and a full floor master suite is discreetly located on the other floor. The curved staircase that joins the two stories features a hand fabricated solid mahogany banister, cast bronze hardware and a copper skylight.

As you enter on the 9th floor, you are immediately struck by the mesmerizing views in front of you. The gracious foyer leads to the side by side double living room and formal dining room, sitting on the park. Gorgeous new triple glazed mahogany windows grace these rooms, and both the living room and dining room have gorgeous decorative fireplaces with ornate mantels. The dining room has a unique bow front, with new mahogany bay windows.

Off the dining room is the spacious gourmet chef's kitchen. Featuring timeless custom white shaker cabinets with fabulous latches and endless cabinet and counter space, this kitchen is perfect for family gatherings or large entertaining. There is a 6 burner Viking professional vented stove with a grill, 2 dishwashers, a full size Subzero refrigerator and a full size Subzero freezer, wine refrigerator and 2 separate freezer drawers. Seamless stainless steel countertops, 2 deep stainless steel sinks and a Carrera marble slab baking station make this kitchen a cook's paradise.

Behind the kitchen is a laundry room and staff room with full bathroom. The laundry room has a side by side vented washer dryer. If needed, this area or part of this area could be added to the kitchen to create an enormous eat in kitchen. Down the hall are 3 additional bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, all renovated with natural stone and ceramic tiles. The 2 West facing bedrooms have quiet open West views.

On the 8th floor is the sumptuous master suite which includes a library/living room, two bathrooms, 2 dressing rooms, a powder room and a wet bar.

The master bedroom is absolutely stunning with a bay window made of tilt and turn single pane glass facing onto the park. The library/living room has 5 more single pane windows on the park as well as custom bookshelves and a built in desk. Both bathrooms are in perfect condition; one is made of Breche Violette marble. The dressing rooms have luxurious custom cabinetry and built ins. More luxurious private quarters do not exist!

50 Central Park West is a well established cooperative since 1973. There is a full time doorman and elevator operator, resident manager, private storage bins, bike room, and modern exercise room. Pets are permitted.

Central Park West | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Home to some of New York City’s most famous buildings like The Dakota, with its enchanting architecture, and the equally impressive San Remo just a couple streets away, Central Park West is one of the most eye-popping neighborhoods to live in.

It is historically renowned for its blending of architecture and residential living. So much so, that it earned a listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It is thought to have some of the most diverse and beautiful skylines in all of New York and has drawn celebrity residents for decades

If world-class architecture isn’t enough for you, there are plenty of warm brownstones to be found as well. There is so much to do in Central Park West, the most obvious being in the name of the neighborhood itself. With Central Park running the length of one of its borders, there’s easy access to the park and all its wonders, running trails, row boats, and bridges. If you prefer the indoors, the American Museum of Natural History is at your service.

There are few places in the world that can match Central Park West’s varied combination of urban and residential charm, elegance, and spirit.
