Property Description for 390 West End Ave, 9-J

This is an incredible opportunity to create your dream home at The Apthorp, and bring back the glory of the fine bones of this apartment.

Spread out over approximately 3,069 sqft, this fabulous high floor "J" line home can accommodate four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms or 3 bedrooms plus a large library, with great light and lovely Northern city views over West 79th Street. There is large entry gallery with pristine original terrazzo floor, and stunning North to South formal dining and huge living room with original filigree work and paneling. Much of the details are intact and in excellent condition, including the warm solid oak hardwood herringbone floors. A new kitchen, bathrooms, HVAC and electric will be needed but the layout and original Apthorp turn of the century details are beautiful and intact! (Photos on this web page are renderings of a possible renovation.) You can create your dream home- traditional, transitional or contemporary!

The Apthorp, one of the most iconic and historic buildings on the Upper West Side, was built between on what was then called "Bloomingdale Road," now known as Broadway. Designed by architects Clinton and Russell for William Waldorf Astor, the style is Italian Renaissance Revival and some say was modeled after the Pitti Palace in Florence. This stunning structure occupies the full block between Broadway and West End Avenue and between West 78th and West 79th streets. Arguably one of the most monumental and magnificent buildings in the city, The Apthorp is built around a large interior courtyard that is planted with flowers and greenery surrounding two ornate fountains. Originally meant for horse drawn carriages, today the courtyard is usable by residents to drive up in cars and be dropped off or to drop off luggage.

The Apthorp was designated a New York City landmark in 1969, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Today The Apthorp has been reimagined as a luxury condominium, while retaining all of its turn of the century grandeur and glamour. The Apthorp's 6,500 square foot amenities suite includes a private spa and fitness center, separate yoga/exercise studio, two treatment rooms with full baths, steam room, sauna, entertainment suite with bar, catering kitchen, integrated media and billiards, playroom and craft center, and individual storage rooms. There are two grand gates with doormen, one on the Broadway side and one on the West End Avenue side. Within the gates are 4 attended lobbies, in each corner of the building.

The images of the interior decorations, finishes, fixtures, appliances, furnishings are artist renderings and are provided for illustrative purposes only. Purchasers are advised that the all specifications and costs associated with purchasing a renovated unit is subject to negotiation between Sponsor and a purchaser. Sponsor makes no representations or warranties except as may be set forth in the Offering Plan.

The complete offering terms are in an offering plan available from the Sponsor. File # CD07-0555. Sponsor Name: IT 2211 Owner LLC, c/o Imperial Companies, 888 7th Avenue, 27th Floor, New York, New York 10019. Equal Housing Opportunity.

Upper West Side | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Bracketed on its east and west borders by massive city parks, the Upper West Side (UWS) is known for its greenery, stately and elegant townhomes, safe streets and great schools, all of which make it a very desirable neighborhood for families. The UWS has maintained its community feeling, making it attractive to young professionals and retirees, both of whom want a sense of belonging in the place they call home.

Here you’ll find many apartment buildings, especially those along Central Park West. Historic architecture abounds, anchored by four luxury co-ops - the San Remo, Majestic, Century and Eldorado apartments - all of which have two towers on their interiors. They were built in the 1930s and their design was predicated on a 1929 building code that imposed a height limit on residences facing the street. There are also impressive row houses near Riverside Drive throughout the W 70 and 80 Streets. Above the 90s, you will find smaller buildings where walk-ups are very reasonably priced.

There are several world-class museums and venues dedicated to the performing arts. Plentiful dining can be found in the UWS. You will find everything from quaint Jewish delis serving up bagels and a schmear to sophisticated fine dining that has earned multiple Michelin stars, and everything you could possibly want in between. There is also abundant shopping and a vibrant nightlife.
