Property Description for 545 West 111th Street, 10-A

This fabulous 8 room home is the first offering of the original "A" line layout at architecturally beautiful 545 West 111th Street!

Perched high on the 10th floor, this apartment offers city views, great light, and panoramic sunsets across the Hudson river. The grand entry gallery is 25' long, and easily accommodates a dining table or piano. The gallery merges the large living room to the brand new designer kitchen. Outfitted with custom white Shaker cabinets, granite countertops, a large stainless farm sink, and chef's appliances, the windowed eat-in kitchen has a chic, downtown feel. The adjacent dining room is very generous and can accommodate large parties. It features original period restored oak beams. In a separate bedroom wing, three large bedrooms have been restored with original stripped solid core doors and transoms among other turn of the century details. The master suite faces West with a peek of the river, and is large enough to build a huge walk in closet to supplement the two current closets. The pristine windowed en-suite bath maintains many of the original prewar details. The second and third bedrooms are serviced by a charming windowed prewar bath. In another section of the home is a fourth bedroom with a full bathroom, a windowed home office, and a vented washer dryer. This area has a separate entrance should someone want a guest or staff to have more privacy. This apartment is complete with nearly 10 foot ceilings, thru the wall air conditioning, large closets, rich solid hardwood floors, and new windows.

545 West 111th Street is an established cooperative building designed by George and Edward Blum and constructed in 1909. Amenities include a full time doorman, live-in superintendent, bike room, private storage, exercise room and a beautifully planted roof deck.

Morningside Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Due to the large number of institutes of higher learning that are housed within its borders, most notably Columbia University, Morningside Heights has a very definite college-town vibe. It has been dubbed the “Academic Acropolis,” both for the large number of schools and for the fact that the neighborhood is built high atop the Manhattan schist bluffs that are the geological bedrock of NYC. From this vantage point, which is the highest point of land in all of Manhattan, you can take in stunning views of upper Manhattan and the Hudson River. Sunsets are especially breathtaking from Riverside Park.

Walk through Morningside Heights and you’ll see a diverse population, especially when the schools are in session. It has a generally quiet atmosphere, bounded by large green spaces, dotted with small cafes, specialty stores, and restaurants that offer all manner of international cuisine. There is a modest nightlife consisting of intimate bars and small musical venues, many of which are open to the wee hours of the morning, and frequented by students.

Housing is primarily pre-war buildings that have larger apartments and beautiful architecture clustered around Broadway. You can find affordable walk-ups in low-rise buildings on the side streets. Many of the residential buildings in the area actually are owned by Columbia University.
