Property Description for 205 West 57th Street, 4-AA

THE OSBORNE
Located diagonally across from Carnegie Hall and 2 blocks from Central Park The Osborne was built by the stone contractor, Thomas Osborne, giving the building his name, and was designed by architect James Ware. The Osborne was a 2 year project which began in 1883 and was completed in 1885.One is drawn in from the outside, and steps back in time inside the Byzantine lobby with stuccoed mosaic tiled walls, mixed mosaic slabs of Italian marble floors along with sculptures, murals, and Tiffany glass. According to the doorman many passersby request a look, but surprise visits are not permitted.

THE APARTMENT Upon entering the foyer you realize this home is quite dramatic and special. Enter the grand living space with wide approximately 8 foot tall windows which receive direct sunlight from the south, and direct views of Carnegie Hall and Seventh Avenue- south to Times Square. Adding a theatrical element to the Grand Room is a spiral staircase leading to a suspended mezzanine bridge taking full advantage of the dramatic 13 foot plus ceilings. The ceilings are finished with rich deep mahogany paneling. A murphy bed is hidden in a mahogany case, and two fireplaces anchor the east and west sides of the approximately 35 foot grand room accentuating the rich wood finishes throughout. The home includes a home office, a windowed kitchen, and in the giant bath a deep soaking tub, separate shower, and water closet along with a 3rd fireplace. There is a wealth of closets and storage throughout. Pied a terres and pets are welcome with board approval.

Midtown West | Manhattan

Quick Profile

People, yellow cabs, bright lights, big crowds, 24-hour eateries and just about every type of store imaginable. it’s a frenetic buzz that only a few places on the globe can offer. And that’s just one part of it. Midtown West is the birthplace of hustle and bustle and it’s bordered by 42nd to the south, 59th Street to the north, 8th Avenue to the west, and 5th Avenue to the east.

Midtown West is not as residential as other neighborhoods in Manhattan. The bustling part of Midtown West is 42nd Street between Times Square and 8th Avenues where the retail and office space, theatres, and attractions are. No matter what time of day it is, you'll always find activity there.

Residential buildings lay near the western end of Midtown West beginning around 8th Avenue.

Location, location, location. Of all the neighborhoods and enclaves of Manhattan, Midtown West is perhaps the most commutable place to live, visit, or work. It contains one of the highest concentrations of subway lines in the Big Apple. A, C, E, N, Q, R, 1, 2, 3, and the 7 train. The transit system feeds the streets with commuters from everywhere. The Port Authority Bus Terminal and nearby Penn Station adds to the number of people that flood Midtown on any given day.

It’s one of the easiest places in all of Manhattan to navigate because it’s a true grid. Uptown, street numbers go up. Downtown, street numbers go down. It’s the same concept from east to west. You really can’t get lost in Midtown West.
