HISTORY

Built in 1890 in Renaissance-Revival style, 131 West 71st Street was designed by Thom & Wilson for John T. and James A. Farley, renowned Upper West Side developers of the era. The Farley brothers built four townhomes on the vacant land on West 71st Street, which stretched from No. 131 through 137.

In 1896, No. 131 became home to the family of well-known educator Duane Shuler Everson, who founded Duane S. Everson's College School for Boys. The Everson Family retained ownership of the home for several generations until 1980, when they donated it to the neighboring Grace & St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
