Property Description for 35-34 77th Street, 1

This three bedroom, two-bathroom apartment has been converted into an open loft-like two bedroom, two-bathroom home, with a sunroom/study replacing the third bedroom. Here is your opportunity to make your new home in Hawthorne Court, which is one of the premier buildings in the landmark district of Jackson Heights. The open layout allows for a feeling of great spaciousness as it combines with all the desirable elements of pre-war charm, including ceilings over nine feet high. The tastefully renovated kitchen, with its pumiced travertine floors, southwest style tiling, high-end Bosch dishwasher, large Subzero refrigerator, and thirty-six inch Bertazzoni stove opens out to both the formal dining room and the living room. For even the most serious home chef, the kitchen has excellent working counter space. This is truly a home for all seasons! Keep warm on snowy days in the living room with its wonderful working fireplace with original prewar mantel. For both privacy and light, the living room windows have custom oak plantation shutters. In the summer, enjoy the 50,000 square foot private garden, featuring an abundance of flowering trees, hydrangeas, azaleas, grasses, elegant walkways and a variety of accommodating seating areas. The large master bedroom has very good closet space, and architectural lighting soffits that are present throughout the apartment. The renovated master bathroom has a custom jet panel shower and tasteful stone tile flooring. The second bedroom is very quiet and enjoys a verdant view of the garden from an over-sized window. Whatever the weather, enjoy a book in the sunroom surrounded by windows and a view of the building's namesake hawthorn trees. Adjacent to the sunroom is a full-sized bathroom as well as a home office neatly tucked behind a curved wall, which is a repeating architectural detail throughout the apartment. Retain the current floor plan or convert the sunroom into a third bedroom! The building was recently updated with care, from the wallpaper in the lobby to the laundry room in the basement. An exclusive ample sized storage bin comes with the apartment. Jackson Heights is a neighborhood best known for its prewar architecture and bucolic ambiance. Enjoy the best of city living in a sprawling apartment very close to Midtown Manhattan on a beautiful, tree-lined block, with convenient shopping, a near year-round farmer's market and the E/F/M/R/7 trains located on nearby 74th Street, as well as easy access to both LaGuardia and JFK airports. Discover what Jackson Heights residents know so well - the most authentic and diverse restaurants of any neighborhood in the five boroughs. For private viewings, please email Sean Sutherland.

Jackson Heights | Queens

Quick Profile

Jackson Heights has one of the most diverse populations in the city, and over 100 languages are spoken here. With this cultural diversity comes supporting restaurants, bars, shops and cultural opportunities. It is a mix of commercial and residential properties. There is a wide range of shops and service businesses, so that anything you would need, from a barber, to a pharmacy, to clothing, and food is available right in the neighborhood, no matter which culture or language you might need these services provided in.

Jackson Heights has three nicknames, based on micro-neighborhoods with the neighborhood as a whole. Little India occupies an area on 74th Street, while parts of 73rd Street are known as Little Pakistan. Little Columbia is along 37th Avenue.

A large portion of Jackson Heights has been designated as an historic district, from Roosevelt Avenue to Northern Boulevard, between the east side of 76th Street to the west side of 88th Street.

Jackson Heights was a planned community, where the first “garden apartments” were created in buildings constructed around central gardens and green spaces that gave neighbors a place to meet and socialize with one another, created places for children to play, allowing light to come into the apartments and air to flow freely through them. These gardens are private and only residents have access to them. Passing by the buildings, you might not even guess the gardens were there, as they are not generally visible from the street.

Additionally, there are some mid-rise apartment buildings. Some of these are rentals, some are co-ops, and some are condos. There are a few attached row houses that provide housing for one to three families.

As much as Jackson Heights might be full of noise and mix of cultures, it also has a quieter side, where the various cultures mix and mingle and learn about each other against a backdrop of beautiful architecture and a culinary landscape that brings the world to Queens.
