Property Description for 455 East 51st Street, 1-D

APARTMENT
From the Venetian-inspired courtyard of Beekman Terrace, this first floor apartment offers extraordinary privacy as it enjoys a private front door entrance off the planted entryway. Replete with sunlight from the three south-facing windows of the living room, this meticulously sourced and artfully transformed one-bedroom, one-bath residence is the ideal pied-e-terre or full-time residence. The bedroom is outfitted with custom-built closets, handsome carpeting, and a large window shaded for privacy. For those who seek tranquility, privacy, and East River views from the uniquely lush courtyard, this is an ideal setting for restful escape.

BUILDING
Beekman Terrace was completed in 1925, built by Joseph B. Thomas, a Boston developer who had created what is now known as "Block Beautiful" on 19th Street between Irving and Third Avenue. Shareholders enjoy the private roof deck with River, 59th Street and Long Island City views.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
