Property Description for 231 West 21st Street, 4-C

Elegant and understated from street to lobby to apartment: all of the old world charm and many of the modern conveniences await in this lovely two bedroom, one bathroom home. 223-231 West 21st Street is a impeccably managed boutique coop made up of two mirror image prewar buildings each with its own elevator, central laundry, bike and storage rooms in their basements. A shared patio runs the expanse of the rear of both buildings giving shareholders a quiet reprieve from the bustle of the central Chelsea location. Located on a beautiful tree-lined stretch of West 21st Street between 7th and 8th Avenue, this fully restored north facing apartment is packed with original details. A long hallway with enormous walk in storage closet leads to a large living and dining room with open kitchen and four large windows that look back on a quiet enclave of gardens. The apartment has three exposures to the west, north, and east. Two equal sized bedrooms with built in closets flank the main hallway. The bathroom has original floor tiles, shower and tub, and a custom designed vanity with built in storage. Refinished hardwood floors, beautiful restored door and window moldings throughout, glass transoms, and a gorgeous slate fireplace mantle create a beautiful backdrop for the new homeowner. The building is impeccably run with no underlying mortgage and zero assessment history!! Storage room and bike storage is available for a small additional fee. Unfortunately, no dogs allowed. The elevator was recently redone with service to the basement for ease and convenience of access to the laundry and storage facilities. Conveniently located between the C/E & 1 train lines, a few blocks from Whole Foods, Forager's and Trader Joe's, as well as the High Line and all the restaurants and conveniences that Chelsea and the west side has to offer. Seeing is believing! Welcome home!

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
