Property Description for 30 Beekman Place, 5-A

This classic six apartment in the desirable A-line boasts a difficult-to-find combination of attributes: working wood-burning fireplace; eat-in kitchen, and exposures in all four directions - all in a white glove, full service doorman building with a live-in Resident Manager. The A-line's flexible floor plans have been configured as three bedroom, three full bathroom residences for families, as well as one bedroom pied a terres for empty nesters who enjoy entertaining on a grand scale.

This spacious home has a window in every room, including the kitchen and all three full baths. The chef's kitchen is clad in seamless stainless steel and is equipped with SubZero, Viking, JennAir and Bosch appliances. The custom cabinetry has solid, unlaquered brass fittings and an additional service sink for entertaining. The 26' x 14' living room has a lovely wood-burning fireplace and treetop views of Beekman Place below. Additional features include a large gallery and foyer, arched entryway, through-the-wall air conditioning units, hardwood floors, and pre-war details throughout.

Residents of 30 Beekman also enjoy the flexibility of owning as pied a terre, pets are welcome, washers/dryers permitted (in the A-line only), and a central storage facility.

Quiet, tree-lined Beekman Place is as charming and exclusive today as when Bing Crosby, Greta Garbo and Irving Berlin were drawn to these two small blocks on a hill overlooking the East River. Distinguished, pre-war co-ops and elegant town homes attract residents who appreciate the intimacy of this small enclave and the privacy maintained by the Beekman Place Association's security staff. 24 hours notice required for showings.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
