Property Description for 119 East 10th Street, 1/2

This stunning townhouse duplex occupies the parlor and second floors of an extra-wide 19th century mansion. Ascend the original stoop to a truly grand entertaining suite unified by 11.5 foot ceilings and compelling prewar details. The banquet-sized dining room adjoins the generous living room with immense windows facing the landmarked street. Pocket doors allow for privacy, and each room is warmed by an immense wood-burning fireplace. The eat-in kitchen occupies a wide porch that has been enclosed with a wall of casement windows to showcase the verdant garden beyond. The cooking area is just as impressive, outfitted with top of the line appliances including a Viking stove. The private balcony offers plenty of room for dining al fresco, overlooking the picturesque fountain and paths winding through the 125 foot long communal garden shared by the cooperative. Throughout this classic townhouse residence, rooms are of a grand scale, with original wide plank floors, wooden shutters, pocket doors, high ceilings on both floors, and a total of four wood-burning fireplaces. Modern conveniences include central air conditioning and a private laundry room. Currently configured as two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and an office, this space could potentially accommodate a third bath.

This Greek Revival townhouse is situated on a prime East Village block in the center of the St. Mark's Historic District, just down the block from historic St. Mark's Church. The house was originally built as a single-family mansion in 1845, and has now joined several neighboring 19th century townhouses as part of an exclusive, financially sound cooperative. This is a non-smoking co-op; pets are more than welcome.

East Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The East Village has two distinct moods. By day, it is quiet and peaceful. Everyone is out and about, either working or relaxing at Tompkins Square Park, strolling or jogging along the East River, or hanging out in one of the subsets of cultural activity, such as St. Mark’s Place.

But then night falls, and the East Village comes to life, keeping the entertainment and nightlife going long after the other neighborhoods have called it quits for the night. People from all five boroughs flock to the dive bars and speakeasies, head for their favorite cafes and restaurants, or drop in to a music venue to listen to hot tunes or cool jazz and dance the night away. Don’t worry, you don’t have to “know somebody” to gain admittance to even the most popular venues. You won’t find velvet ropes, bouncers, or and a waiting list at the door of most places. Just walk right in and enjoy yourself.

Be prepared for the increased population during fall through spring, when NYU is in session. College students will be everywhere, contributing to the youthful essense of the neighborhood.
