Your new home is a quiet haven of tranquility on one of the most affluent streets in New York City. Your home says a lot about you and this home is your passport to the Golden Age. The renowned architect Emory Roth created the finest New York City residences and Sutton Place has always attracted the most prominent notables including Mario Cuomo, Kenneth Cole, Sigourney Weaver, Peter Lawford and Patricia Kennedy Lawford, Lillian Gish, and Bill Blass to name a few. You are invited to join a very select group and there's never been a better time to do it.

Drive up your circular driveway to be greeted by the doorman who awaits your arrival and is available to help you with your needs. Your new home sets the stage for what is about to come. Enter your grand and commodious tranquil lobby with wood burning fireplace. There is no doubt that there is a cachet in owning a home in a world class building on a street that everyone in the world knows. The elevator will open to your landing and you and your guest will appreciate the intimacy that awaits you before you enter your new residence.

As soon as you pass through to your almost 14' formal entry foyer you will immediately be struck by the expansive feel as the grandness awaits you. Enjoy the romance of your sunken living room with genuine Louis XIV mantle that surrounds your wood burning fireplace. The prewar detail of this extra wide homey room as well as raised dining room are architectural styles that have stood the test of time. This gem will satisfy your discerning taste. In addition, a 42' planted terrace with both irrigation and electric offers a lifetime guarantee of natural splendor. Your grand master bedroom with beamed ceilings has a bath en-suite, of course, but best of all is your attached and indispensable sitting room / office / TV room that may be tailored to your needs. The current owners have intelligently raised the ceiling creating a magnificent romantically lit coved ceiling that is both unique and magnificent. Think circa 20s French fixtures. Imagine exquisite window treatments and art deco sconces and chandeliers. Picture your beamed sunken living room with wood burning fireplace. Picture a quiet wall of windows leading to your private wrap terrace. Imagine top of the line kitchen with thermofoil seamless cabinetry, Wolf oven with signature red dials and cream colored Whitehaus farmhouse sink. Imagine not having to imagine all of this anymore because it can be yours! Enjoy the convenience of your own coveted personal Miele washer/dryer. Every room has a window including both bathrooms. The half bath features a top designer pedestal Sheryl Wagner sink and accessories. If this is not enough, 2 Sutton Place South also has a gym and building storage space.

Sutton Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Sutton Place is usually described with favorable words like charming, cozy, great neighborhood, hidden gem, sanctuary, or even small village inside a big city. Those descriptions aren’t from real estate folks either, they’re from the people that live and work there, so it must be true.

The quiet and upscale neighborhood is more like an enclave. It’s bounded by East 53rd Street to the south, East 59th Street to the North, First Avenue to the west, and the East River to the east. Most residents will tell you that everything you’ll ever need is located in the neighborhood. When it’s time to venture out into the cityscape, Sutton Place is within easy reach to Midtown and cultural attractions like the Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and other iconic sites.

Manhattan has always had notable celebrity residents. But for unknown reasons, Sutton Place has had more than its share of superstars over the years. Some of the more iconic celebs include: Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, Freddie Mercury, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Crawford, Michael Jackson and sister Latoya (Just for one summer).

Sutton Place is named after Effingham B. Sutton, a shipping merchant and entrepreneur. After hitting it big in the California gold rush, Sutton built brownstones along East 57th and East 58th streets with aspirations of making the section more residential. Poverty and crime dashed his dreams. The street gangs that hung out along the dead-ends and cul-de-sacs added to the neighborhood’s decay. Sutton was about to give up on his development endeavors but the Vanderbilt’s and the Morgan’s showed up in the 1920s and transformed the neighborhood. It soon became a wealthy enclave.
