Property Description for 253 Tompkins Ave, 2-B

Residence 2B is a new one bedroom condominium that checks every box: great room proportions, high ceilings, and tons of southern and western light, and an effortlessly livable floorplan. The corner living/dining room flows into a perfectly designed open kitchen with breakfast bar and custom German millwork in walnut and glossy grey lacquer, Bosch appliances including a gas cooktop and a large wall oven, paneled dishwasher, and Fisher and Paykel stainless steel refrigerator, and white quartz countertops. Ceilings reach up to 9’10”. The bedroom is well sized at 11’6 x 10. There is a full size Electrolux washer/dryer and all floors are solid oak hardwood. Windows and doors are by Pella. 253 Tompkins elevates new condominium ownership in Bed-Stuy. The building has an elevator, lobby, courtyard garden, and rooftop terrace with skyline views. It is designed by Isaac & Stern, an architectural firm known for thoughtful layouts and enduring value. Von King Park, designed by the creators of Central Park, is a neighborhood fixture and the restaurant and bar scene is ever expanding - anchored by Eugene & Co. to the south, Kleinberg’s to the north, and Little Roy Coffee around corner.

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
