Property Description for 8701 Shore Road, 420

You are going to love this amazing and supersized one-bedroom co-op, located on the fourth floor of a coveted pre-war building situated along the waterfront. This apartment has been meticulously renovated. Cook away in the "no expense spared" kitchen, equipped with an abundance of cabinetry and quartz countertops. The stainless steel appliances are all Samsung, and all come with a warranty: stove, dishwasher, 4-door "Flex" refrigerator, as well as separate under-the-counter beverage and wine refrigerators. A unique breakfast bar that seats up to four people allows for great entertaining and leads to the enormous living room/dining area. In addition to the living area, this sun-filled room has enough space to accommodate a dining table and even a home office, and offers beautiful harbor views. The pristine bathroom has been tastefully designed with all modern fixtures and features a luxurious walk-in shower. The bedroom is large enough for a king-sized bed plus all your bedroom furniture and has an incredible walk-in closet. Although this apartment has been modernized -- including all new electric -- many pre-war details remain such as high ceilings, wall niches, and generous closet space.

Building amenities include a beautifully landscaped front garden, newly renovated art deco lobbies, laundry, bicycle and air conditioner storage rooms. A live-in superintendent and two full-time porters keep the building in immaculate shape. It's pet friendly, too - dogs up to 40lbs. are welcome. And the location can't be beat: the express buses stop directly in front of the building, the R train is a short distance away, and the ferry service at the 69th Street Pier is a great option, whether for commuting or pleasure. 8701 is also known for having the easiest street parking on Shore Road. Right across the street are the miles of greenspace and waterfront promenade where you can enjoy picnicking, biking, jogging, tennis, a leisurely stroll, or the increasingly popular yoga in the park, all with the soaring Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge as a backdrop. If you're looking for space, light and location, then this is the apartment for you!

Fort Hamilton | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Fort Hamilton has the unique distinction of being both a military base and a neighborhood in Brooklyn. Well, technically it’s a sub-neighborhood of Bay Ridge.

Named after founding father Alexander Hamilton, the neighborhood sits in the southwestern corner of Brooklyn and it’s about a square mile in size (give or take). Its boundaries are 86th Street to the north, Belt Parkway and Fort Hamilton military installation to the south, 7th Avenue to the east, and Shore Road to the west.

The area was originally inhabited by the Canarsie Indians and later settled by the Dutch in 1620. A few decades later, thanks to land grants from Governor Peter Stuyvesant, Cornelius Van Werckhoven from the Netherlands purchased what is now Bay Ridge and Fort Hamilton for a very small amount of money.

The area remained an isolated stretch of rural land until the electric trolley line was introduced to Brooklyn in 1892. The trolley connected various points of Brooklyn and Fort Hamilton soon flourished. .

Fort Hamilton and Bay Ridge experienced waves of immigration and just like other areas of New York City it became a true melting pot. Irish and Italians immigrants made their way to the neighborhood in the early part of the 20th century followed by Syrian and Lebanese immigrants in the 1950s. More recently, Asian and Arab-Americans call Fort Hamilton home.

Modern-day Fort Hamilton may not have the cool factor that other Brooklyn neighborhoods flaunt but there are many trade-offs. It offers tree-lined streets and friendly neighbors. Most residents will tell you it has a small-town feel with the added perk of affordable housing. Fort Hamilton’s proximity to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and access to Manhattan-bound trains make it a very commutable neighborhood.
