Property Description for 195 Bergen Street

NEW! Bergen Street Beauty! Designed in the 1920s, this absolutely charming, center stair, 4-bedroom gem has plenty of room for entertaining a crowd or just spending a quiet night curled up in the elegant living room. Southern light floods the front rooms highlighting the original details which include perfect tin ceilings, a graceful circular stair, crown moldings, and original beautifully intact wall moldings. Built-in bookcases and a sunny window seat in the entry/ extra dining area offers a peaceful spot for reading. Past the renovated half bath and the windowed office is a private patio, perfect for barbecuing and gardening. The open eat-in kitchen, offering views of the verdant gardens to the north and opens up the full length of the house, thru the living room to the south. Up the winding sky-lit stair is a stylishly renovated windowed bath. All 4 bedrooms have ample closet space and additional closets are efficiently located in the hall on every floor. A painted world map leads you up a real stair to the roof which offers views of the BoCoCa and downtown Brooklyn. A basement area, with over six-foot ceilings, offers additional storage and a laundry room with access out to the street level. With nearly every room stretching the width of the house, each room has the same proportions of much wider homes and apartments, yet at a fraction of the cost! 195 Bergen Street is your perfect first home and is ideally located on a wonderful tree-lined street amongst the low-rise, townhomes, corner restaurants, and specialty shops of Boerum Hill. 195 Bergen Street is super convenient to 5 subway lines, schools, playgrounds, the Barclays Center, Atlantic Terminal, and all the shops and restaurants on Court and Smith Streets. Grab your coffee, walk the dog, meet the neighbors, and enjoy the peaceful, friendly streets of Boerum Hill. Mr. Rogers would love it here!

Boerum Hill | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Boerum Hill is a tiny, quiet, primarily residential neighborhood in Brooklyn. There are broad tree-lined streets that are filled with elegant three and four-story brownstones and townhouses, mostly built between 1840 and 1870. There is a definite family vibe to the neighborhood, but young professionals are moving in, and with them are coming trendy bars to cater to their desire for some measure of nightlife, without having to linger in Manhattan. These new bars and restaurants are being sandwiched in amongst existing shops on both Atlantic Avenue and Smith Street, which are the main commercial areas in Boerum Hill.

Boerum Hill offers a convenient location that is still able to maintain its small-neighborhood feel. Shopkeepers value their customers and remember their regulars. It continues to do what it was designed to do, namely provide small-town living in the very shadow of the big city. Boerum Hill is an easy commute to other parts of the city, making it easy to come home every day to the peace and tranquility of Boerum Hill while commuting to a job anywhere in the city.

The neighborhood is quite walkable and you can take the time to catch up with your neighbors while visiting on their stoops. Shopping on Atlantic Avenue is stress-free with no high pressure. You can meet with friends at any of the many coffee shops and while away pleasant hours in conversation. The dining scene on Smith Street is similarly laid-back. Don’t expect that there will be quite as much to see or do as there is in Manhattan, but there are a decent number of interesting bars and restaurants providing a measure of nightlife. The trade-off is worth it, as Boerum Hill provides a quiet, peaceful place to live and raise a family.
