Property Description for 231 West 21st Street, 4-A

This recently renovated mint condition apartment boasts 10-foot ceilings and oversized windows, with a bright southern exposure and sky views overlooking beautiful West 21st Street. The layout was reconfigured and features an open plan kitchen and living room, ideal for entertaining. The windowed gourmet kitchen includes Sub-Zero and Bosch appliances, bespoke handcrafted cupboards, Italian slate countertops, and ample room for a dining table. The quiet primary bedroom was moved to the back of the apartment, and has been outfitted with floor-to ceiling custom closets and a ceiling fan. The second bedroom, currently used as a den, has floor-to-ceiling built-in bookcases and double pocket parlor doors. The modern bathroom renovation includes wall-mounted Duravit toilet and sink and a soaking tub. Throughout the apartment, original details were carefully preserved, including restored door and window moldings, glass transoms, original hardwood floors, and a gorgeous decorative slate fireplace. The entire apartment has an integrated speaker system with volume controls in each room. There is a generous amount of closet space and a dedicated storage unit in the basement.

Built in 1899, this elegant co-op has an abundance of pre-war charm with Gustavino subway tiles in the foyer and hallways, decorative iron staircase, a restored stoop, and original detail throughout. 223-231 West 21st Street is made up of two mirror image prewar buildings each with its own elevator, oversized laundry, bike and storage rooms in their basements. Both elevators have recently been completely rebuilt while restoring the original elevator cabs and extending service to the basement for ease and convenience of access to the laundry and storage facilities. A shared patio runs the expanse of the rear of both buildings giving shareholders a quiet reprieve from the city.

Located on a tree-lined stretch of West 21st Street between 7th and 8th Avenue, the apartment is within close proximity to public transportation, grocers (Forager's, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Chelsea Market), the High Line, Hudson River Park, Madison Square Park and all the restaurants, galleries and conveniences that Chelsea and the west side have to offer. The building is impeccably managed with a live-in super, no underlying mortgage, no history of any assessments, and a low maintenance (with no increase for 2021). Co-purchasers, gifting, pied-a-terres, and guarantors are allowed. The only thing not allowed are dogs.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
