Property Description for 300 West 135th Street, 2-S

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom condominium with private outdoor space is the perfect uptown retreat in an amenity-rich, full-service building just inches from St. Nicholas Park.

Jaw-dropping 11-foot-tall ceilings — unique to the building's second floor — make a dramatic first impression in this bright 1,099-square-foot residence. Relax and entertain in the large living/dining room surrounded by Brazilian cherrywood hardwood floors, a designer chandelier, and sunny southern exposures. The open kitchen dazzles with gleaming lacquer cabinetry, beautiful countertops, and tile backsplashes. The built-in desk area is a fantastic space for working from home, and chefs will love the army of upscale stainless-steel appliances, including a Bosch gas cooktop and range, electric oven, a built-in microwave, dishwasher, and a French door refrigerator. Enjoy casual meals at the massive center island/breakfast bar or step out onto your private terrace for coffee or cocktails alongside lush park views.

The desirable split-bedroom layout places the owner's suite west of the living spaces. There, you'll find terrace views, custom doors and closets with customized built-ins throughout, and a stunning contemporary en suite bathroom with a walk-in glass rain shower, Robern floating vanity, Toto toilet, and Jeeves towel warmer. The large secondary bedroom is placed directly across to the well-appointed guest bathroom, and extra closets ensure storage will never be a concern in this flawless Harlem haven.

Strivers Gardens is a modern, pet-friendly condominium building where residents enjoy full-time doorman service, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a lounge with flat-screen TVs and a full kitchen, a stunning atrium garden, two laundry rooms, storage, bike room, and an on-site valet parking garage with Zip Cars.

This stellar Central Harlem neighborhood is filled with lovely outdoor space and recreation with St. Nicholas Park, Riverbank State Park, and Riverside Park all within easy reach. City College of New York and Columbia University are nearby; Harlem's renowned dining and nightlife scene unfolds at your doorstep; and the 125th retail corridor provides fantastic shopping, including Whole Foods, H&M, DSW, and more. Harlem | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The neighborhood called West Harlem by the locals is known as Manhattanville to neighborhood newcomers. The area is culturally diverse and might be considered a microcosm of the city as a whole.

Columbia University has recently expanded into the area, which is attracting student residents from all over the world. Together with students from the City College of New York and young professionals fleeing higher prices in other neighborhoods, this influx of younger residents has brought with it more restaurants and bars on W 125th Street to serve this clientele. There are also new ventures, like a rock-climbing gym, to cater to the interests of these students and young professionals. At the same time, there are many small, family-owned shops and restaurants that have been anchors of the neighborhood for multiple generations.

The area has been through a housing upgrade, as older properties have been renovated and abandoned properties have been razed to make room for new development. There are still reasonably priced apartments available. Young professionals are finding that there is a certain cachet to living in West Harlem. It provides a convenient commute to the city and all of its amenities, while providing a sense of escape at the end of a long work day.

While rentals are popular with the student population, the young professionals are delighted to find pre-war brownstones, pre-war co-ops (including some income-capped HDFCs for lower- and middle-income buyers), and post-war condos that they can afford, although prices are rising. Some new low-rise developments, sporting virtual doormen and desired amenities, are cropping up.
