Property Description for 170 Second Ave, 5-D

Residence 5D is a large, pre-war two-bedroom, one-bath residence located at 170 Second Avenue, a striking Art Deco full-service cooperative building at the corner of Eleventh Street in the East Village. This spacious north and east facing corner home boasts Empire State Building and ConEd Clocktower views, lovely light, original parquet oak flooring, and built-in cabinetry throughout. High beamed ceilings are emblematic of the original details from this historic 1929 building.

The grand entry foyer/gallery leads to an expansive living room, which is the centerpiece of this majestic, comfortable home. This 25’x13’ room has views over a lovely tree lined block of 11th street and looks north to the skyline and its iconic buildings. Both the living room and the foyer open into the updated windowed kitchen, which features granite countertops with ceramic tile backsplash, GE appliances, and those same pretty views.

The spacious corner bedroom overlooks the treetops of Eleventh Street and the large second bedroom faces the back which provides a quiet, peaceful retreat. Conveniently located between the two bedrooms is a windowed, black and white tiled bathroom with the original reglazed 5.5’ cast iron soaking tub and a large separate shower.

170 Second Avenue is a majestic prewar jewel. It features a beautiful lobby with terrazzo floors, brass chandeliers, Art Deco murals and a mahogany-paneled elevator and is impeccably maintained by a wonderful full-time staff, including a live-in superintendent, porters, and 24-hour elevator attendant. East Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The East Village has two distinct moods. By day, it is quiet and peaceful. Everyone is out and about, either working or relaxing at Tompkins Square Park, strolling or jogging along the East River, or hanging out in one of the subsets of cultural activity, such as St. Mark’s Place.

But then night falls, and the East Village comes to life, keeping the entertainment and nightlife going long after the other neighborhoods have called it quits for the night. People from all five boroughs flock to the dive bars and speakeasies, head for their favorite cafes and restaurants, or drop in to a music venue to listen to hot tunes or cool jazz and dance the night away. Don’t worry, you don’t have to “know somebody” to gain admittance to even the most popular venues. You won’t find velvet ropes, bouncers, or and a waiting list at the door of most places. Just walk right in and enjoy yourself.

Be prepared for the increased population during fall through spring, when NYU is in session. College students will be everywhere, contributing to the youthful essense of the neighborhood.
