Property Description for 407 Stuyvesant Ave, 1

Grandeur, Grace and Glamor: Welcome to your special duplex home like no other. Nestled in the heart of the Stuyvesant Historic District, the interior has been preserved and restored to showcase the neoclassical, Romanesque Revival style, the epitome of dignified elegance.

As soon as you enter the parlor entrance, it is easy to see that this exquisite duplex, once home to baseball great Jackie Robinson, is one-of-a-kind, starting with the stately foyer, brilliant chandeliers, gleaming balustrades, towering pocket doors, two decorative fireplaces, perfectly preserved pier mirrors as well as decorative fireplaces.

The duplex layout makes for flexible use, as a 2-bedroom unit or even as a 3- or 1-bedroom, depending on the preference of the resident. There are 2 entryways, one at the parlor level and the other on the garden level, with a full-sized washer and dryer for exclusive use and a must-have for brownstone living. A tranquil private backyard will serve as a refuge for anyone working from home or coming home from a hectic day. Closets and storage also abound in this generously spaced home.

The verdant Fulton Park is within sight of this stunning duplex and the A and C trains at the Utica Avenue station are a stone’s throw away.

This unit is situated in the Stuyvesant Historic District, which was designated as such because of its harmonious and historic architecture. While the appearance of the area has not changed significantly since its development, the neighborhood is now home to a vast array of modern conveniences as well. Enjoy myriad local fare right in the neighborhood, including Saraghina, farm and sea to table L'Antagoniste, Peaches and Nana Ramen.

Be it the inlaid hardwood floors, delicate plaster reliefs or clean wainscoting lines, this stunning home will inspire even the most discerning with awe.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
