Property Description for 112 West 13th Street

Once home to author E.B. White of Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little fame, Number 112 is a classic Greek Revival townhouse tucked away on quiet 13th Street. It maintains many original details like pocket doors, six fully functional wood-burning fireplaces with stunning marble mantles, and a double-doored foyer. It is defined by seven outdoor spaces including a front yard, serene back garden, four terraces, and a spectacular landscaped roof deck.

This bright, open townhouse is move-in ready with fresh paint inside and out, and recent upgrades to the baths, though the price will allow the new owner to personalize the residence. It is approximately 4,250 square feet – not counting the cellar – and is currently laid out as a four-bedroom with the potential to create five or more, with five full baths and one powder room.

The cellar is ideal for wine storage, a sound studio, a playroom, or a gym. The garden level is full of possibilities. It is currently used as a music room and comes complete for entertaining with a wet bar. It also includes a guest bedroom/office. The front and rear private entrances on the ground level make for interruption-free coming and going and an ideal for conversion to live/work space, mother-in-law suite, nanny flat, or guest quarters.

The parlor level features soaring 11-foot ceilings and sun-bathed rooms, starting with the living room immediately adjacent to the foyer. This leads to the open and sunny south-facing kitchen complete with Viking range and Subzero refrigerator, and a dining area surrounded by bay windows overlooking the expansive landscaped garden and opening on to the deck.

One flight up the classic staircase is the dreamy master level with two spa-like bathrooms. The front one features brand new Duravit toilet, double-drawered sink and vanity, and a soaking tub, all with brand new hardware, plus new light fixtures including a chandelier. With a wall of closets and a walk-in, the storage is immense. On the next level are two more generously sized bedrooms, one with a terrace, and both with en suite baths and walk-in closets, plus a laundry room.

Like a cherry on top, there is a beautiful solarium level with front, rear, and top decks that make for glorious views. Complete with a wet bar and bath, the room is perfect for an art studio, guest room, or a relaxing and fun entertainment space.

Although it feels like a country house, as it is pin drop quit with greenery visible from every window, it is only seconds from a rich array of fun shops, yummy restaurants, music venues, and transportation, including the B/D/F/M,L,1/2/3, A/C/E and PATH trains.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
