Property Description for 8 Mount Morris Park West, A

Seeking the oasis of outdoor space? In-unit laundry a new non-negotiable? Treasure old world brownstone charm? This home ticks all the boxes and then some. Unit A is a two bedroom with private patio, in-unit laundry, and shared community garden in the Mt Morris Park West condominiums, a gorgeous row of Renaissance Revival townhomes facing a quiet stretch of Mt Morris Park. The apartment itself is large and inviting, with eastern light shining through the living room (original parquet floors, double double-wide closets with built-ins) and open kitchen (featuring dishwasher, brand new stove and microwave, and nearly-limitless counter space). Both bedrooms offer tranquil views, gentle quiet, and western light. The larger is spacious enough for a queen or king bed and offers a walk in closet; the smaller comfortably fits a full bed and, with direct access to your private garden, is an ideal home office, second bed, or guest room. And the private garden! Pavers, patio furniture, trellising vines, and streaming afternoon sunshine — this is a true oasis in the heart of Harlem. And speaking of: just off the 2/3 at 116th or 120th; around the corner from local favorite restaurants Barawine, Settepani, Il Caffe Latte, Sugar Hill Creamery, Archer & Goat, and Encanto de Lola; a block south of your local NYPL branch; and facing the greens of Mt. Morris Park (which also offers a community center, public pool, walking paths, and outdoor concert venue) — 8 Mt Morris Park W is ideally situated. In COVID times, the Marcus Meets Malcolm block association has been particularly active, offering family activities, outdoor movie nights, music and educational events, and sponsoring a free community fridge on the corner of 120th/Malcolm X Boulevard. If you're looking for an oasis of calm in a warm, connective community — this is the home for you. Pets are welcome case-by-case; the unit is no-fee; the owner is local and highly responsive. Freshly painted and move-in ready for April 15 (or as soon as condo board approval is obtained; the board is likewise swift and responsive). Reach out to schedule your private appointment!

Mt. Morris Park | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Central Harlem is an enclave filled with cultural landmarks, gilded age brownstones and a vibe you don’t find in many neighborhoods these days. Mount Morris Park Historic District, located in west central Harlem, is a vibrant neighborhood with tree-lined streets and gorgeous brownstones. The large 16-block section is the byproduct of Harlem’s first building boom and should not be confused with Mount Morris Park, which is a 20-acre park that was renamed Marcus Garvey Memorial Park in 1977. What can we say? Sometimes gentrification complicates things.

The boundaries of Mount Morris Park Historic District are West 118th and West 124th Streets, Fifth Avenue, and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard. The neighborhood was designated a historic district by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1971. Architectural buffs will be enamoured by the neighborhood's handsome architecture that includes late 19th- and early 20th century row houses designed in the Romanesque Revival, neo-Grec and Queen Anne style.
