Property Description for 2 Sutton Place South, 8-F

This Two bed, two bath home in the coveted F line at 2 Sutton Place South has been renovated to perfection. No detail was overlooked. Enter the foyer and behold beautiful dark hardwood floors with an inlaid geometric tiled "carpet" and a custom built-in marble bar and enclosed wine refrigerator. Step down into the East Facing living room which has gorgeous herringbone dark wood floors, beamed ceilings, a marble fireplace with an engraved metal mantelpiece, and lighted, custom-built cabinets with bejeweled hardware. The black lacquer closet doors, purchased at auction from the Waldorf Astoria Hotel with gold signature logo hardware are stunning. All lighting throughout the home is operated by a Lutron system. Wonderful morning light floods in with the northeast view of neighboring Sutton buildings, Queensboro Bridge and a peak of the East River. HVAC cooling and heat throughout, and a separate storage bin transfers with the sale.

The separate Dining Room is located off the windowed Chef's kitchen. The beautiful slate floor features hexagonal tiles. There is lots of counter space with marble countertops, custom wood cabinets, a Samsung Refrigerator and Oven, and a Fisher Paychel Dishwasher.

The primary bedroom faces east and it has custom-lit closets. The mirrored, solid wood closet doors are outstanding, enhanced by bejeweled hardware. The on-suite windowed bath features a marble floor and vanity, Toto Washlet Toilet, and porcelain tiles with geometric accent. The 2nd bathroom has marble floors and countertops with glass tiling in a dramatic geometric shape and top of the line fixtures. There is an Electroluxe Washer Dryer hidden in one of the closets.

The second bedroom faces west and south and is set up as a study and den. It has hand painted walls, many closets and an Electrolux washer dryer. The regal bronze doors are also from the Waldorf Astoria.

Built in 1938 and designed by architect Emory Roth, 2 Sutton Place South is a full service white glove cooperative. It showcases a beautiful lobby with wood burning fireplace and a magnificent entrance with its unique circular driveway. Amenities include a state of the art fitness facility, bike room, fully equipped gym, on-site laundry, a live-in Resident Manager, excellent staff and a landscaped rooftop garden. Financing is permitted up to 50 percent. Pets and pied-a-terres are permitted. Conveniently located near fine restaurants and shopping, relaxing parks and mass transportation.

Sutton Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Sutton Place is usually described with favorable words like charming, cozy, great neighborhood, hidden gem, sanctuary, or even small village inside a big city. Those descriptions aren’t from real estate folks either, they’re from the people that live and work there, so it must be true.

The quiet and upscale neighborhood is more like an enclave. It’s bounded by East 53rd Street to the south, East 59th Street to the North, First Avenue to the west, and the East River to the east. Most residents will tell you that everything you’ll ever need is located in the neighborhood. When it’s time to venture out into the cityscape, Sutton Place is within easy reach to Midtown and cultural attractions like the Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and other iconic sites.

Manhattan has always had notable celebrity residents. But for unknown reasons, Sutton Place has had more than its share of superstars over the years. Some of the more iconic celebs include: Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, Freddie Mercury, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Crawford, Michael Jackson and sister Latoya (Just for one summer).

Sutton Place is named after Effingham B. Sutton, a shipping merchant and entrepreneur. After hitting it big in the California gold rush, Sutton built brownstones along East 57th and East 58th streets with aspirations of making the section more residential. Poverty and crime dashed his dreams. The street gangs that hung out along the dead-ends and cul-de-sacs added to the neighborhood’s decay. Sutton was about to give up on his development endeavors but the Vanderbilt’s and the Morgan’s showed up in the 1920s and transformed the neighborhood. It soon became a wealthy enclave.
