Property Description for 795 Greene Ave

Originally constructed in 1899, this renovated home is located on a beautiful tree-lined street in Stuyvesant Heights. The townhouse is a 20-foot-wide, two-family brownstone with approximately 2400 square feet and features 5 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, 1 powder room, a parlor deck with steps to a spacious backyard and a rooftop deck to take in the Brooklyn skyline.

The owner's three-bedroom duplex comprises the top two floors of the brownstone. The parlor level features an expansive open floor plan with living room, kitchen, dining area and a powder room. All appliances are stainless steel. There is beautiful exposed brick wall running the length of the parlor which has two stunning, non-working stone fireplaces, beamed ceilings and oak wood floors.

Upstairs you will find three bedrooms and two full baths. The master bedroom features an ensuite bath and walk-in closet and faces the backyard. The other two bedrooms are positioned in the front of the house and off the hallway there is the second full bath and washer/dryer. One flight up is your wonderful private rooftop deck.

The separate garden floor two-bedroom/one bath unit can serve as an income-producing property or in-law apartment. The basement can be accessed under the stoop without entering the garden unit. It can easily be transformed into a playroom, home office, artist studio or included with the garden rental unit.

This brownstone is located between Lewis Ave and Stuyvesant Ave moments away from great establishments such as L'Antagoniste, Saraghina, Chez Oskar and Peaches as well as several local parks that feature playgrounds, basketball or tennis courts. Nearby public transportation includes the A/C & J trains or the Halsey B26 or the Gates Ave B52 and JFK is a short 20 min drive.

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
