Property Description for 1 Main Street, 2-L

Dramatic loft proportions and masterful updates define this stunning one-bedroom plus den, two-bathroom residence in The Clock Tower, Dumbo's most revered luxury condominium. This flawless 1,655 square foot home invites you inside with soaring ceilings, hardwood floors and oversized east-facing windows. Extensive updates, including custom solid wood millwork and tasteful designer lighting, add chic contemporary style throughout. The sunken living room invites you to relax and unwind amid charming views of the historic neighborhood. Entertain under the Moooi "Random" chandelier in the spacious dining area, and enjoy a stellar chef's kitchen outfitted with custom cabinetry, new Jet Mist granite counters and upscale appliances, including a Thermador oven and cooktop, Sub-Zero refrigerator and Bosch dishwasher. Head to the spacious owner's suite to discover a window seat with storage and a beautiful walk-in closet fitted with custom millwork. The en suite bathroom features bespoke mid-century modern cabinetry, imported limestone tile, a soaking tub, separate shower and wall-mounted Toto toilet. The large den could easily serve as a home office, nursery or guest suite, and the adjacent full guest bath is enrobed in Calacatta marble with more custom millwork. An oversized laundry room with a new Electrolux high-efficiency washer and ventless dryer completes this turnkey Brooklyn showplace. Located within the Dumbo Historic District, The Clock Tower is the neighborhood's most noticeable building, thanks to its impressive size and iconic clockfaces. Converted to residential use in 1998, the esteemed condominium features a handsome marble lobby with 24-hour concierge service, a fitness center, roof deck, resident storage and bike room. This 1914 warehouse once served as the powerhouse for "Gairville," a collection of structures controlled by Robert Gair, an innovator in cardboard packaging. Later, it was an executive building and shipping warehouse for Charles William Stores. This extraordinary home is surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery and endless recreation from its ideal location just inches from the Dumbo waterfront. The fantastic Empire Stores, DUMBO House, and St. Ann's Warehouse deliver world-class shopping and entertainment, while the local dining and nightlife scene is unsurpassed. Nearby A/C, F, 2/3, R and 4/5 trains, CitiBike stations and the Fulton Ferry Landing provide effortless access to the rest of the city.

Dumbo | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

DUMBO, which is an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, used to be a lively industrial and manufacturing zone, full of large factories and warehouses. These buildings have now been converted into expansive lofts, theaters, galleries, and office spaces for start-up companies. These larger residential spaces are attractive to families and creative artists and writers who need space to dream and create.

DUMBO was named in 1978 as a sort of reverse marketing ploy to try to keep people from swarming into the area, attracted by the quaint tree-lined streets, elegant historic brownstones, large lofts, and views of Lower Manhattan. It was felt that this influx of people would change the nature of the neighborhood. It was hoped that by giving the area a ridiculous name, nobody would want to live there.

Many of the neighborhood’s bars, hotels, and restaurants capitalize on the stunning waterfront views and the Manhattan skyline in the background. Interesting and fun cultural events are held under and around the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges that connect DUMBO to Manhattan. One of these is the annual Oktoberfest.

With beautiful vignettes of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges being framed around every corner, DUMBO provides residents and tourists with charming, and often surprising, views. Because the neighborhood is eminently walkable and filled with unique shops, it feels like a small town on the edge of a major urban waterfront. Once people move to DUMBO, they tend to stay and become involved in the community.
