Property Description for 400 East 52nd Street, 16-J

High up on the 16th floor sits this jewel one bedroom oasis with a unique Southern facing terrace that spans the length of the whole apartment. Enjoy open city and river views as far as the eye can see from this stunning prewar one bedroom in the Southgate, an Emery Roth cooperative. Relish the views of the midtown skyline, the boats passing by the old hospital on the East River and lots of other gorgeous terraces in surrounding prewar buildings.

The apartment is in very good condition with original refinished light hardwood floors, a very large living room, nearly 14 x 21, with a separate entrance gallery and dining room. The ceilings are 8'9 at their highest and the apartment is approximately 1000 gross square feet including the terrace. The windowed kitchen has a SubZero refrigerator with two freezer drawers, a Bosch dishwasher, a Viking 4 burner stove and nice cabinetry space. The whole apartment is flooded with natural sunlight. The primary bedroom has double exposure South and East. There is a windowed bath and glass shower. Washer/dryers and through-wall air conditioning allowed.

This full service white-glove building sits on a quiet cul-de-sac. Southgate was designed by Emery Roth and built by Bing & Bing in 1931. Coop features a 24 hour doorman, landscaped garden, onsite management, bike room, storage (waitlist), and is pet friendly, and allows 80% financing and pied-a-terres. The maintenance includes electric.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
