Property Description for 282A Gates Ave

This is good. Two-family gem in Bedford-Stuyvesant awaits you.

Prewar details are abundant here. Mahogany and oak hardwoods frame the floors, staircases, pocket doors and louvered shutters. Twelve-foot ceilings, artisan painted mantles, stained glass, and restoration quality hardware complete the scene.

Mechanical improvements include plumbing, electrical, central cooling per floor, hot water tank, furnace, and windows. There are over one-thousand square feet of air rights for a roof deck or rear building extension. An extraordinary yard depth of 120 feet creates further opportunity. Please consult your architect to understand the full potential.

Lower Triplex. Two bedrooms, California kitchen, living room, full bathroom and powder room. Amenities include: private entrance, bay window, stainless steel appliances, washer/dryer, one (1) decorative mantle, recreation space, private garden and ample storage throughout.

Upper Duplex. Two bedrooms, linear kitchen, living room, formal dining, full bathroom and powder room. Amenities include: washer/dryer, radiant heated bathroom, two (2) decorative mantles and storage.

A block from Clinton Hill, transportation is easy via subway or bus. Local eateries abound. Locanda Vini & Olii is a neighborhood staple for Italian. American and international cuisine options include: Speedy Romeo's wood-fired fare, Olmsted, Saraghina, The Crabby Shack and Oaxaca Taqueria. Specialty markets (Bondi Wine, Mekelberg's) and bakery-cafes (Playground Coffee, Choice Market, Clementine Bakery, Starbucks) are a stone's throw.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
