Property Description for 600 West 115th Street, 23

Entering the Luxor via the double marble lobbies, one leaves behind the hustle and bustle of Columbia University and the myriad purveyors supplying academia's more prosaic needs. One is welcomed into a double height marble , wood and shined brass world overseen by Gaetan Aijelo's signature grand staircase and stained glass lobby window. A turn of the last century architect extraordinaire , the neighborhood's character is set by the many limestone Edwardian buildings he designed. That grandeur extends into Apt 23 . The double foyer echoes the double entry and a soaring ceiling height archway frames the grand living room with its decorative mantle, picture moldings and a full wall of tall casement windows. The 15'10" x 8'10" entry foyer used up and down the line as a library, music room, home office, dining room, art gallery , storage with two gigantic walk in closets , awaits your reuse and imagination. The large eat in kitchen boasts a gigantic North facing picture window, a dishwasher, hardwood floors, plenty of cabinets and can easily be combined via the pantry with the foyer to create a great room. This gorgeous rambling home with the perfect balance of grand and formal entertaining room and a private corner bedroom wing awaits its next loving residents. Occupying the North East corner with all rooms facing open vistas through oversized double paned windows, light streams in all day long, all year round. Washer/dryers allowed. Pet friendly with a live in super and bike storage. The wow factor? The place where all the holiday gatherings happen. One block to Riverside Park. Morningside Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Due to the large number of institutes of higher learning that are housed within its borders, most notably Columbia University, Morningside Heights has a very definite college-town vibe. It has been dubbed the “Academic Acropolis,” both for the large number of schools and for the fact that the neighborhood is built high atop the Manhattan schist bluffs that are the geological bedrock of NYC. From this vantage point, which is the highest point of land in all of Manhattan, you can take in stunning views of upper Manhattan and the Hudson River. Sunsets are especially breathtaking from Riverside Park.

Walk through Morningside Heights and you’ll see a diverse population, especially when the schools are in session. It has a generally quiet atmosphere, bounded by large green spaces, dotted with small cafes, specialty stores, and restaurants that offer all manner of international cuisine. There is a modest nightlife consisting of intimate bars and small musical venues, many of which are open to the wee hours of the morning, and frequented by students.

Housing is primarily pre-war buildings that have larger apartments and beautiful architecture clustered around Broadway. You can find affordable walk-ups in low-rise buildings on the side streets. Many of the residential buildings in the area actually are owned by Columbia University.
